Powerball players in North Carolina have double the reason to play Powerball now with Sunday’s introduction of Powerball Double Play.
Double Play provides an exciting new feature that gives players a second chance to win cash prizes of up to $10 million. That means players can win a prize in either the Powerball drawing or the Double Play drawing, or both.
“The N.C. Education Lottery is excited about giving our Powerball players a new way to win $10 million,” said Mark Michalko, chief executive officer of the lottery. “It’s aways fun to give North Carolina more chances to win a life-changing prize.”
Double Play sales start today. The first Double Play drawing will take place Monday night. The Double Play drawings will occur immediately after Powerball drawings on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights.
Players can add Double Play to their ticket in any retail location or select the Double Play option on a lottery vending machine, on our website, or in the lottery app. One set of numbers is played in both the Powerball and Double Play drawings, giving players two chances to win.
The new optional feature costs $1 per play. Double Play is only available as an add-on to a standard Powerball ticket. So the cost would be $3 total to add Double Play to a standard $2 Powerball ticket.
Double Play prizes range from $7 for matching the Powerball to $10 million for matching all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of winning $10 million in a Double Play drawing are 1 in 292 million.
