North Carolinians continue to win big Powerball prizes ranging up to $2 million as they try their luck on a jackpot that has surged in Wednesday’s drawing to $1.25 billion.
A winner tonight could claim the jackpot as a $1.25 billion annuity or $572.1 million in cash.
Monday’s Powerball drawing saw multiple big wins in North Carolina:
• A $3 Power Play ticket purchased at the Food Lion on Rebecca Drive in Hillsborough won $200,000 when the 4X multiplier came up.
• A $2 ticket bought at the Harris Teeter on Kensington Drive in Waxhaw won $50,000.
Monday’s big wins made it seven straight Powerball drawings with North Carolinians winning prizes of at least $50,000 and five straight with at least a $100,000 winner.
“It has truly been an amazing Powerball run so far as North Carolinians continue to win big prizes drawing after drawing,” said Mark Michalko, chief executive officer of the N.C. Education Lottery. “We are all hoping that culminates with a jackpot win in North Carolina tonight. Good luck.”
Tonight’s drawing, the 44th in the jackpot run, represents a new record for most consecutive drawings in a jackpot cycle. The $1.25 billion prize is the second-largest Powerball jackpot this year, trailing only the $1.7 billion jackpot won Sept. 6 in Missouri and Texas.
Players can buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website or NC Lottery Official Mobile App. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
