Sylvia Wells of Hubert told her husband she would win big in the lottery, and on Tuesday it happened when a $5 scratch-off delivered a $200,000 top prize.
“I was like, ‘I told you we were going to do it,’” Wells recalled telling her husband after she won. “We did it.”
She bought her lucky Diamond 10X ticket from the Handy Mart on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville.
“We bought his favorite ticket and my favorite ticket,” she said.
They scratched the tickets together after leaving the store. It turns out her husband’s favorite ticket, Diamond 10X, produced the big win.
“We just kept looking at each other,” Wells said. “It was overwhelming.”
Wells arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim her prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $143,501.
She plans to use her winnings to buy some land.
The Diamond 10X game debuted in December with four top prizes of $200,000. One $200,000 prize remains to be claimed.
