Jeffrey Douglas of Cherryville had a wedding anniversary to remember over the weekend when a $50 scratch-off won him a $100,000 prize.

“It was our 31st wedding anniversary on Sunday,” he said.

Fittingly, right after he won his prize on Sunday, Douglas contacted his wife to share the big news.

“I texted her a picture of the ticket and she said, ‘Call me,’” Douglas laughed.

He bought his lucky $10 Million Spectacular ticket from the Times Turn Around on East Main Street in Lincolnton.

“It was pretty awesome,” Douglas recalled. “It’s a blessing.”

He collected his prize on Tuesday at lottery headquarters and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,764.

Douglas plans to share his winnings with his family and help his tree-cutting business.

“Do you know how many trees you have to cut to win this much money,” Douglas joked.

The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December 2023 with five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000. One $10 million prize, two $1 million prizes and two $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
