Lottery players in North Carolina can play for the sixth largest jackpot in Powerball history tonight after the jackpot just got a $35 million boost today to $850 million.
A winner on Wednesday could claim the jackpot as an $850 million annuity or $383.7 million in cash. Tonight’s prize represents the largest Powerball jackpot since April 2024.
“Big Powerball runs like this one provide big wins for players and big wins for education in the state,” said Mark Michalko, chief executive officer of the N.C. Education Lottery. “We have already seen $15 million raised for education from this current Powerball run. Good luck to all North Carolinians playing for the $850 million prize tonight.”
While players keep trying for the jackpot, one lucky $3 Power Play ticket in North Carolina matched four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000 in Monday’s drawing. The prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit. The ticket came from Bass Country Store on N.C 27 East in Coats.
Powerball has gone 37 straight drawings without a jackpot win. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Lottery players can play for another big prize on Friday as the Mega Millions jackpot stands at a $277 million annuity or $124.6 million in cash. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290 million.
Players can buy Powerball or Mega Millions tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com.
