Matthew Goins of Franklinville had a feeling he should buy a $5 scratch-off on Wednesday and his instinct paid off with a $200,000 top prize.
“Something just told me to go get that ticket,” Goins said.
He bought his lucky Jurassic Park ticket from DD Express Biscoe on East Main Street in Biscoe.
“My son is really big into Jurassic Park,” Goins said. “I was drawn to the tickets because of the second-chance trip to Hawaii.”
Goins said it took some time to process his win.
“I really couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I still don’t believe it.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $143,501.
He plans to use his winnings to buy a Toyota truck.
The Jurassic Park game debuted this month with four $200,000 top prizes. Two $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed. The game also features a second-chance promotion where players can win a trip for two to Hawaii to participate in the $1 million Jackpot Challenge. Two separate drawings will be held during the promotion. The first promotion period runs Aug. 1 to Oct. 31 with a Nov. 5 drawing.
Randolph County received over $29 million from money raised by the lottery to build a new middle school. For details on other ways the lottery helps benefit education programs in Randolph County, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
