Barbara Burris of Charlotte likes to use her family’s birthdays for her Cash 5 numbers, and the strategy paid off on Saturday with a $336,635 jackpot.

“It’s truly a blessing,” she said.

Burris had a hard time controlling her emotions when she found out she won.

“I burst out and started crying,” she recalled. “I just couldn’t believe it.”

Burris bought her lucky $1 ticket from the Harris Teeter on University City Boulevard in Charlotte. The odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

She already knows how she wants to spend her winnings.

“We are going to Disney World in October,” Burris said. “I was going to drive, but now we are going to fly.”

She claimed her prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $241,536.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Wednesday’s jackpot is $130,000.
