Edward Allen of Monroe tried his luck on a $3 Powerball ticket and won a $150,000 prize.

Allen bought his lucky ticket from Rolling Hills Express on West Roosevelt Boulevard. in Monroe. His ticket matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball in Saturday’s drawing to win $50,000. Because he bought a Power Play ticket, his prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit.

Allen arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim his prize, and after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $107,626

Wednesday’s Powerball drawing offers a $1.3 billion jackpot, or $589 million in cash. The jackpot ranks as the fifth largest in Powerball history and the ninth largest among U.S. lottery jackpots. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
