Annette Harper of Charlotte tried her luck on a $2 Lucky for Life ticket and won the game’s $25,000 a Year for Life prize.

Harper bought her lucky ticket from Circle K on Central Avenue in Charlotte. She won her prize by matching all five white balls in the July 31 drawing. The odds of winning that prize are 1 in 1.8 million.

When Harper arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive $25,000 a year for the rest of her life or $500,000 in cash. She chose the lump sum option and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $279,832.

Lucky for Life is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or through Online Play, either on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
