After Michael Standish of Zebulon got the news that he won a $120,000 Cash 5 jackpot, he had a big grin on his face.

“I was happy, I was smiling,” Standish said. “It felt great.”

Standish bought his lucky $1 Quick Pick ticket for Thursday’s drawing from Privettes Mini Mart on Old U.S. 64 East in Zebulon. The odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598. Standish said he has been close to matching all five balls before.

“I’ve got four of the numbers three times before,” he said.

Standish believed a big win might be coming his way soon.

“I was thinking recently, ‘I’m about due,’” he said.

Standish claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $86,412.

He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and put money toward his retirement.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Tuesday’s jackpot is $140,000.

Education programs in Wake County received $64.3 million in support from lottery funds last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
