Jimmy Batten of Kenly North Carolina tried his luck on a $30 scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 top prize.

Batten bought his lucky $100,000 Cash Payday ticket from 42 Express Food Mart and Grill on N.C. Highway 42 in Middlesex.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,018.

The $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted this month with 80 $100,000 top prizes. Seventy-seven $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Education programs in Johnston County received $14.6 million in support from lottery funds last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
