Arpad Nagy of Winston-Salem likes to keep an optimistic outlook in life and that positivity paid off with a $100,000 Mega Millions win.

“My glass is always half full,” he said. “I always believed I would win.”

Nagy bought his lucky $5 Quick Pick ticket for the Feb. 17 drawing using Online Play. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the yellow Mega Ball and won $100,000 when the 10X multiplier came up.

“I kept counting the zeroes,” Nagy laughed. “It was an awesome surprise.”

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $72,011.

Nagy plans to use his winnings to do take a vacation to visit family in Sweden and Hungary.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot stands at a $473 million annuity or $221.8 million in cash. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290 million.

Mega Millions is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
