Quyen Du of Archdale tried her luck on a $20 scratch-off and won the first $1 million top prize in a new lottery game.
Du bought her lucky Magnificent Millions scratch-off from the Walmart on South Main Street in High Point.
When Du arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim her prize, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required tax withholdings, took home $432,066.
The Magnificent Millions game debuted in October with three top prizes of $1 million. Two $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.
Randolph County received over $29 million from money raised by the lottery for construction on a middle school. For details on other ways the lottery helps benefit education programs in Randolph County, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
