Ronald Baggett of Four Oaks tried his luck on a $3 Powerball ticket on Saturday and won a $200,000 prize.

Baggett bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket from the Speedway on North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. Because Baggett bought a Power Play ticket, his prize quadrupled to $200,000 when the 4X multiplier hit.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $144,021.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot stands at a $663 million annuity or $290.4 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Education programs in Johnston County received $14.6 million in support from lottery funds last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
