Since the Mega Millions drawing on Friday, Sept. 30, the excitement revolving around North Carolina’s fifth multimillion jackpot win has been building to this: as of 9 a.m. this morning, the winners are here, and lottery officials have verified that their ticket is worth $57 million. At a media conference to be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, NCEL executive director Alice Garland will introduce the winners and present them with a celebratory check here at headquarters.
The store where the winners purchased their jackpot-winning ticket was sold, the Kangaroo Express on Southeast Greenville Boulevard in Greenville, was announced Monday, Oct. 3. We know what folks have been wondering since then: first and foremost, who are the winners? How did they find out about their “Mega” luck? Will they claim the jackpot prize as a $57 million annuity paid over 26 years, or the lump sum value of approximately $42.4million? Now that they’ve hit the jackpot and claimed the prize, do they have any immediate plans for their winnings?
We will learn the answers to these questions and more after today’s media conference. Follow us on Twitter for live updates from HQ, like us on Facebook to see a video recap of the event later today, or stay tuned here in the Lucke-Zone for a look back at the big winners’ big day.
