Trio of six-figure prizes top week’s winners

Before we move on to this week’s big winners, we have to talk about the Powerball jackpot. It stands at an estimated $148 million for Saturday’s drawing with Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $48 million. We wish all our North Carolina players the best of luck becoming our sixth major jackpot winner!

So, we start this week’s big winner rewind with a really big win in a really small town in the Sandhills of North Carolina. Wesley and Jeanette Skinner are among the 4,000 or so people who live in Elizabethtown. You might have read the unique story of how they came to find out they won a $300,632 Cash 5 jackpot – the largest lottery prize in Bladen County history.

From down east, you might take highway 74 to drive to Charlotte where another interesting thing happened. A store clerk suggested that Jacqueline Hernandez try her luck on an instant game instead of her usual Pick 3 ticket. Hernandez gave it a shot, and scratched off the top prize of $125,000 on a Casino Cash ticket.

Zigzagging back to east of Raleigh, a couple from Clayton said they planned to save for their children’s college education after winning $100,000 playing a Wheel of Fortune scratch-off game. William Locklear said he chose the ticket based on the number of the dispenser it was in – because it matched one of his favorite Powerball numbers.

Speaking of Powerball, a $50,000 prize went to an Apex player for Wednesday’s drawing. A player from Arapahoe won $30,000 playing Powerball in the drawing a week before, on October 12. We are still waiting to find out who won $10,000 Powerball prizes on tickets sold in Richmond and Gastonia for the Saturday, Oct. 15 draw.

Also still unknown are the ticketholders of two Cash 5 tickets that won $30,256 each in Wednesday’s drawing. They were sold at the Country Cupboard in Mount Airy and the Wilco on Highway 70 in Clayton.

Among major scratch-off wins, players from Hendersonville and Nebo collected $50,000 playing Junior Big Ol’ Bucks and Diamond Mine. A $20,000 Royal Riches prize went to a Charlotte player. At the $10,000 prize level, players from Clinton, Burlington, Castle Hayne, Jarvisburg and Sims all cashed in this week.

We’ll wrap up this week’s rewind by looking forward to the season of holiday games which began Tuesday with $100,000 Treasure Tree, Silver Bells and Holiday Green. This has become a popular tradition we hope will continue to add some holiday cheer this year. We also hope everyone has a great weekend, and see you next week here in the Lucke-Zone.

@ BKEARNEY220 - As we mentioned in the other blog where you asked this question, we had a technical issue with the blog commenting system and we are now going through the process of responding to everyone's comments and questions. From July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011, Franklin County players won more than $6.5 million in prizes. Since the lottery began through 6/30/11, Franklin County players won more than $27.3 million

@ SUGARBAE - We'd suggest calling our player hotline for information about how to play a specific game. The toll free phone number is 877-962-7529

I would like to know how do you play game #2 on the $125,000 Casino Cash scratch off ticket I don't play cards so I don't know if my card is higher than the dealers card could someone please send me an example on how this game should be played because I could be a winner and not know it.

@ SANDON - That's an interesting idea. We've got folks here who look at every angle when it comes how how prizes are structured for games... not sure if an upgrade feature will be added to the Cash 5 game in the future or not... but, as always, we'll forward your suggestion! :-)

10/28/2011 03:42 - SANDON E.

just something concerning the cash 5 if your not gonna increase the payout at all levels and at least start prize money at 100k how about this option. do like the mega mill and powerball for a extra buck you can powerplay and it will increase the prize by what ever the powerplay ball is that awy you can charge 2 per ticket and in the future start the prize monet at 100k.

@SCRATCHHAPPY - Thank you for taking time to share your comment with us. We have many great retailers who help us offer games to you that provide good customer service, and we would encourage you to give those stores your business. If anyone here in the Lucke-Zone has an experience where a clerk insists on a tip in order to sell you a lottery ticket or cash in a winning ticket, would you please call our player hotline at 877-962-7529 with the name and location of the store?

I love Sandon suggestion of Lottery machines. Some clerks are not nice to lottery players unless they get a tip each time they hand you a ticket. You always get bumped behind long lines of people buying other stuff. I don't mind as long as i evenually get a turn but sometimes you have to go back to the end of the line twice or as I said , give them a tip for service. Just saying

10/26/2011 05:36 - JUDY R.

I still would like to know how many remaining scratch off tickets on each one is available

@ GARY - Your suggestion is one we've heard from other players as well, and is something we may be able to offer on our website in the future. Thanks for taking time to comment

see u soon when i win the big one,u cant win if u dont play

10/23/2011 01:19 - gary s.

It would be nice to have the number of remaining prizes of all the prizes than just the top prize. i think players would play the game more if they know how many prizes are left of all of the remaining prizes.

10/22/2011 10:45 - james w.

i wish i knew how to down size my chances to win something
