Cash 5 jackpot claim headlines week of winners

Without a doubt, this week’s biggest winner is Todd Bodily. The Sanford man won $134,296 in the December 13 Carolina Cash 5 drawing. “Just last week my wife told me that if I ever won the lottery, I could buy a new truck,” Bodily said. “There you go.”

The biggest instant win off the week goes to a retiree from the small town of Corapeake in Gates County who won the biggest prize ever awarded to a resident there. Christine Williams won $50,000 playing Loteria.

Other scratch-off winners this week came from places big and small. The Count Up Cash game paid off in the form of a $20,000 prize for Jamielle Blocker of Asheville. Antonio Smith of Clayton and Robin Quinones of Durham won $20,000 each playing the lottery’s holiday-themed Silver Bells game. And William Waggoner, who lives in Belews Creek in Forsyth County, scored $10,000 playing $200,000 Cash.

Heading into the weekend, the multimillion dollar jackpots are getting up there. As of Friday afternoon, the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $135 million while Powerball players have a shot at $91 million on Saturday.

North Carolina’s draw games produced three money mysteries this week: who bought the $50,000 Powerball ticket at Mr. Pete’s Market IX in Henderson? How about the $10,000 one sold at L&L Stores in Nashville? And does anyone know who won $65,938 on a Cash 5 ticket purchased at Byrd’s BP in Asheboro? Players have 180 days from the date of a drawing to claim prizes.

One Powerball winner collected $20,000 after his ticket matched four numbers and the Powerball in the November 30 drawing. William Thieman of Wilmington bought his ticket at the Gas Center on South College Road in Wilmington.

Lastly, let’s take a look at North Carolina’s other draw games over the week. Players with winning three-digit combinations won more than $1.9 million playing Pick 3. As for Pick 4, 37 tickets won the top prize of $5,000 to drive more than $682,000 in prizes.

We wish you all a fun, safe and lucky weekend! See you next time in the Lucke-Zone.

@ JIM243 - The odds of winning the Cash 5 jackpot are the same every day. The difference between when the jackpot is $50,000 and when it's $500,000 is the number of tickets players buy. The more tickets that are sold for a drawing, the more number combinations are out there, the higher the chances that more than one ticket will have the same combination of numbers that win the jackpot. But the odds are the same every day.

@ DEEP1 - You can look for patterns in the results of random drawings, but each drawing is a unique random event that has no connection to a previous or future one. Come to Raleigh and watch a drawing sometime and you'll see how the machines and balls are randomly selected before each drawing.

I'm telling you, this lottery is fixed. Ever since that new lottery director took over, the payouts on the pick 3 and 4s are way down from the original director's tenure. Trips use to fall darn near every major holiday, now we rarely see a trip fall on any day. The players are being cheated and noticing. Va pays out 3x as much on most days and is a smaller state.

Here we go again, cash 5 goes night after night and no one seems to have purchased the winning numbers...the pot gets to $535,000 and there are 3 winners with the same numbers! What are the odds of this happening?????? It almost seems like 2 of the Lucky Winners knew which numbers to pick.

Husband purchased me three cash 5 tickets.First # matched and the last 4 were all 1 # off.Talk about bad luck.Still holding the record for winner of $1.00 in 4 years???????????????

Jesutton-I understand where you are comming from. They can say everyone has the same chance of winning but I do not see that either when winners are from the same areas(large of small towns)I am on a fixed income so do not trash the retired,it just the wealthy retired that win.Look at the winners chart.See where allthe winners are.If I had a job w/ the benifits that you people at lottery headquarters have I could be happy-go-lucky also. There is a snake under a rock somewhere out there.

@ JESUTTON - We understand the point you're making, but it wouldn't be fair to make every fourth ticket a winning ticket.. it would be illegal actually. Because then if three people in a row bought one ticket each, they'd be guaranteed to lose and the fourth person would be guaranteed to win. Chances of winning have to be the exact same for everyone buying a ticket at any of our 6,600 stores across the state.. we appreciate you taking time to talk with us here in the Lucke-Zone

@ AFRT04 - We hope you see our response here on this blog entry. There are not plans for a raffle on the horizon right now, but chances are there'll be another one sometime down the line. Thanks for asking and glad you're happy with the new info on our website

Well lucke zone when som1 buys 4 $20 tckets they should win their money back.w are the ones who is putting money in the lottery so these retirees can win And we already no theres more losing tickets than winners.Thats already been proven. You can make more winning ticket. Its not like the lottery don't have the money. There are lots o people agree with that......

12/20/2011 04:19 - JEFFREY Y.

Thank you for adding the odds for each prize to the newer scratch tickets. That helps me decide which ticket I'm going to buy!! Speaking of the best odds to win a big prize, can I ask AGAIN do you know when the raffle will be brought back? Thanks again

12/20/2011 09:38 - NC Lottery

@ JESUTTON - We know scratch-off players want to win too. The odds of winning vary from game to game. It's true that with lottery games anywhere, there will always be more non-winning tickets than winning tickets. But the good news is, the tickets have no idea who is buying them - whether its a retiree, or you, or somebody else! So it's just a matter of luck. We wish you the best of luck!

Once again lucke zone odds need to be better at winning on scratch off.You said odds on powerall and megamillions will have better chances at winning.Lots of peopl buy scratch offs need towin more than $10.Then agai some retired person will win, lots of people feelthe same way i do.

@ MACMILLION - Every afternoon, seven days a week, there is a live drawing for Pick 3 and Pick 4. The drawing is held at WRAL studios, but it is not broadcast live on TV. You can watch the drawing on WRAL or on our website, usually within 30 minutes of the drawing. Live air time for the afternoon drawings is not part of our contract with WRAL. The evening for Pick 3, Pick 4 and Cash 5 is carried by some TV stations in North Carolina, you can see which ones by checking out our website.

i will not give up hope, my day is coming.

12/19/2011 09:51 - Donnell G.

question for the 2nd time: are the daily pick 3 and pick 4 games drawings live twice a day?? If not, why not? We have heard that they were not.

12/19/2011 09:12 - NC Lottery

@ CAMERO - If you take a look at this blog entry, you'll see that winners and winning tickets are from big places and small places. Everyone's got the same chance of winning regardless of where they live. The $50,000 Loteria winner from Corapeake mentioned above, you can click on the link to read an article about her win. Corapeake is a very, very small town. This year, we've actually had two big instant winners from Valdese - a $100,000 prize on Wooooo!II and $10,000 on Cash Bonanza.

12/18/2011 11:14 - kathy w.

i think the games and drawings are fixed because i have been playing the powerball and mega and the scratch offs every since it has come to north carolina and no one in the small towns like icard, hildebran valdese have not won the big money. people in the upper states and people that are already have money are the ones that have won.sorry for felling like this but it is the truth.

12/18/2011 08:28 - correna w.

12/17/2011 04:50 - ruth b.
