Without a doubt, this week’s biggest winner is Todd Bodily. The Sanford man won $134,296 in the December 13 Carolina Cash 5 drawing. “Just last week my wife told me that if I ever won the lottery, I could buy a new truck,” Bodily said. “There you go.”
The biggest instant win off the week goes to a retiree from the small town of Corapeake in Gates County who won the biggest prize ever awarded to a resident there. Christine Williams won $50,000 playing Loteria.
Other scratch-off winners this week came from places big and small. The Count Up Cash game paid off in the form of a $20,000 prize for Jamielle Blocker of Asheville. Antonio Smith of Clayton and Robin Quinones of Durham won $20,000 each playing the lottery’s holiday-themed Silver Bells game. And William Waggoner, who lives in Belews Creek in Forsyth County, scored $10,000 playing $200,000 Cash.
Heading into the weekend, the multimillion dollar jackpots are getting up there. As of Friday afternoon, the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $135 million while Powerball players have a shot at $91 million on Saturday.
North Carolina’s draw games produced three money mysteries this week: who bought the $50,000 Powerball ticket at Mr. Pete’s Market IX in Henderson? How about the $10,000 one sold at L&L Stores in Nashville? And does anyone know who won $65,938 on a Cash 5 ticket purchased at Byrd’s BP in Asheboro? Players have 180 days from the date of a drawing to claim prizes.
One Powerball winner collected $20,000 after his ticket matched four numbers and the Powerball in the November 30 drawing. William Thieman of Wilmington bought his ticket at the Gas Center on South College Road in Wilmington.
Lastly, let’s take a look at North Carolina’s other draw games over the week. Players with winning three-digit combinations won more than $1.9 million playing Pick 3. As for Pick 4, 37 tickets won the top prize of $5,000 to drive more than $682,000 in prizes.
We wish you all a fun, safe and lucky weekend! See you next time in the Lucke-Zone.
