Mega Millions, Powerball jackpots top $100 million

For the first time in almost nine months, we’re seeing Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots greater than $100 million each. The Mega Millions jackpot rolled to an estimated $152 million for Tuesday’s drawing, while Powerball eclipsed the $100 million mark to reach an estimated $104 million for Wednesday night.

North Carolina players won more than $369,000 in the weekend drawings for these games, with a pair of tickets winning $10,000 in each drawing.

Lucky players who matched four white balls and the Mega Ball Friday night to win $10,000 each bought their tickets at the Wilco on North Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis and at Smiths Grocery on Briley Road in Greenville.

The stores where Powerball players won $10,000 in Saturday’s drawing are not too far from where the Mega Millions tickets were sold. Those retailers are Sam’s Mart on Mallard Creek Road in Charlotte and the East 10th Street Blue Flame in Roanoke Rapids.

Who was lucky enough to win these prizes over the weekend? And could a North Carolina player win one of these $100 million+ jackpots this week? We hope to find out soon... best of luck to everyone.

When I wasn't playing the lottery I would dream of numbers & they would come out. Now that I have finally started playing it, I don't dream of numbers anymore. I hope to when one day.

@ JIM243 - Exactly, we are in total agreement. We didn't delete your comment. It might have just taken a while for it to be reviewed and posted. Every Lucke-Zone comment has to be screened for bad language or rudeness but we never said yours was either one of those things. We did our best to explain, maybe in another blog entry where you posted a question, that more people tend to play when the Cash 5 jackpot gets bigger, making it more likely that one or more tickets will match all five numbers. It's all in the odds/probability.

down in FLA visiting sister and nephews,One of my nephews is in the army,have'nt seen him in a long time.he is station in TEXAS,just came in from Afghanistan in August.bought me a powerball ticket last night,hope the change would bring me good luck,no wins on it ...so will have to wait until Saturday....

Of course my comment had no vulgar language and was not rude at all. I will repeat it once again, and hopefuly it will be posted this time. The comment stated, "Here we go again, Night after Night no one comes up with the winning numbers for Cash 5, but when the pot reaches $500K plus there are (3) winners!...Its almost like at least 2 of the winners know which numbers to pick" Hopefully you did not find this comment rude, just my personal observation. This seems to happen about every time the cash 5 jackpot gets high, which I find very odd!

@ KEEN1051 - Just on instant games, we've had several big winners from Caldwell County this year: a Collettsville player won $10k on $200k a Year for Life; Lenoir players won $5000-$50,000 prizes on $200k a Year for Life, Jr. Big Ol' Bucks, $20K Payday and Cash Bonanza; and a Hudson player won $10k on $200M Extravaganza. In June, a Granite Falls player won $127,530 playing Cash 5. Five big Powerball wins went to Caldwell players this year, including a $1 million prize to a player from Lenoir and a $30k prize to a player from Granite Falls this month.

When easterns say folks in the west win, mostly they are referring to scratch-off tickets i.e. very few big winners in the east.I guess it's a population thing more than anything else;number of tickets sold,etc..Got to keep trying,I reckon. Well,I went down to Myrtle Beach over the week end,on the way home Sunday, I thought I would do something different this time.I stopped at this store in OD to get some gas,really cheap down there in SC,I bought me a powerball and Mega millions ticket.If I should win,hope the Sc taxes wont eat me up,then NC taxes...maybe there will be some left for me to get out of debt.
