Remember the story of the “Last-Second Millionaires” from a couple weeks ago? Well, North Carolina has another $1 million mystery: who bought the $1 million-winning Powerball ticket in Whiteville? A ticket purchased at the Time Saver Food Store matched all five white balls in Saturday’s drawing and, because it was Power Played, is worth $1 million (for those not familiar with Whiteville, it is in Columbus County between Lumberton and Wilmington). The clock is ticking on this ticket, but there’s plenty of breathing room: whoever’s holding it has 180 days from Saturday to claim it.
Next-biggest winning ticket this weekend is for the Carolina Cash 5 game. A $219,032 prize awaits whoever matched all five numbers on a ticket purchased at Lowe’s Foods on River Road in Newland. If you are not yourself a Newlander, it’s a town located in Avery County, very close to the Tennessee border.
Still hungry for big winner geography? Winning tickets this weekend were sold in both the town of Lenoir and in Lenoir County. A $50,000-winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Quick Pantry on Park Street in Canton (Haywood County). Plus there were $10,000 Powerball winners sold in Kinston (Lenoir County), Gastonia (Gaston County), Kings Mountain (Cleveland County), and Lenoir (Caldwell County). Finally, a Mega Millions ticket from Friday’s drawing also won $10,000. Someone bought that ticket in Huntersville (Mecklenburg County).
