Have any Powerball tickets that haven’t been scanned? It might be worth checking them as, in just a few days from now, a Powerball ticket worth $200,000 will expire forever. The ticket was purchased for the Dec. 22, 2010 Powerball drawing and will expire on Monday, June 20.
The ticket was sold at the Handy Mart, located at 3806 Arendall Street in Morehead City. As it’s a vacation destination, the ticket may have traveled far from its origins. It matched five white balls but not the Power Ball in the drawing. The five white balls for that drawing were 11-33-44-46-47.
The winner has to claim their prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh by 5 p.m. on June 20. Players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
Sally Montgomery, the Handy Mart’s manager, said that so far no one has come forward in the store. “We really hope someone comes and claims the ticket. It would be a great story.”
So the question is why would it take so long for a ticket to be claimed? It could have been lost, fallen between the seats of a car or even washed in the laundry.
Or, it could just be forgotten about. In 2009, a Winterville man had less than two full business days left before his $200,000 Powerball ticket was set to expire. He claimed his prize from the July 9, 2008 drawing on Jan. 4, 2009. The ticket had been sitting on his dresser since he purchased it, completely forgotten about until a friend from Greensboro heard of the missing ticket and called to ask if he had ever checked his ticket.
Will you help us spread the word and find this winner? There’s only a few hours left to make this into a happy ending for some lucky player!
