Sometimes big things come in small packages, the saying goes. Well, sometimes big winners come from small towns, too.
Yesterday, Margaret Scott of Grover in Cleveland County claimed a $30,000 instant prize playing a "Money Bag Crossword" scratch-off game. With her win, four of the six top prizes of $30,000 remain unclaimed in the $3 game.
Although Grover is a very small town, Scott is actually the second instant winner from there this year. In March, Thomas Hollifield won $5,000 playing the "$200,000 a Year for Life" game.
One of the largest lottery prizes in North Carolina history was won by a Cleveland County man. In June 2009, Jeff Wilson of Kings Mountain won an $88.1 million Powerball jackpot. He elected to take the lump sum prize valued at $42.4 million.
