Powerball, Cash 5 players headline this week's wins

Among the biggest winners of the week, a retired art teacher from Ohio got more than a little "R&R" on his way to vacation in Ocracoke. A quick stop and a Powerball purchase at The Border Station in Moyock in Currituck County led to a $200,000 win. In addition, the 25th and 26th Cumberland County residents to ever win a Cash 5 jackpot claimed prizes of $369,616 and $139,065 this week.

During the Powerball jackpot run that started July 2 and ended Wednesday night, N.C. players won more than $5.6 million in prizes, including: two $1 million prizes, four $200,000 prizes, two $30,000 prizes, one $20,000 prize and 20 $10,000 prizes. Early estimates tell us that the stretch of wins also generated more than $7 million for education - made possible thanks to local retailers and players across the state. With the jackpot-winning ticket sold in Minnesota for Wednesday's drawing, Saturday's Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million.

The jackpot for tonight's Mega Millions drawing is estimated at $16 million. A $10,000 Mega Millions winner, Pedro Lopez of Garland, won $10,000 in Tuesday's drawing.

Recapping prizes paid to draw game players since Thursday August 4th, Pick 3 players won more than $1.9 million, Pick 4 players won more than $955,000 (including 53 $5,000-winning tickets), and Cash 5 players won more than $634,000. Tonight's Cash 5 jackpot is estimated at $185,000.

Last, but certainly not least, instant winners cashed in more than $10.4 million in prizes state-wide since last Thursday. The top win went to Ana Rodriguez of Ramseur. She won $50,000 instantly on a Loteria ticket. Five other players won $10,000 instantly playing $200 Million Extravaganza, 200,000 a Year for Life and Jumbo Bucks.

Well I an still puting my money in my Lottery Box. That's the money I was wasting on this mess. Now have $710.00. Wife and I are goning to Nashville in Sept.Now that is the way to win at this game. Saw a friend wate $100.00 yesterday and he got o in return. Tried to tell him put your money in a boxs every week. It adds up quick and you are a winner everytime.

@ GODMOTHER - You can be absolutely sure that balls numbered 0 through 9 are in every slot for the Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings. The drawings must fit into a very short period of time, and there are limitations on how much time the camera will be zoomed in on particular aspects of the drawing. All drawings are conducted according to very strict procedures that take hours before and after to complete. The entire process is monitored by surveillance cameras; an auditor who does not work for the lottery is present for every drawing; and players like you are welcome to attend a live drawing to witness just how much care we take to ensure that the results of drawings are fair to everyone who plays.

Why aren't all of the balls shown up close when picking the pick three and four? I'd like to see the balls up close to make sure there are 10 different numbered balls in there.

@ TUFFNUFF1 - Now that you mention it, some fun changes are coming to Powerball starting January. Jackpots will start at $40 million, five ball matches will be $1 million wins, just to name a couple. Keep an eye out for that. As for your suggestion for the prize structure, Powerball is a game played in many states, so updates don't happen very often, and as we just mentioned there are some new features coming soon. So thank you for sharing your comment, but "odds are" the game won't be changing again for a while!

Would really be nice if when the power ball hit 50 mil. you could start on a 2nd winner, and at a 100 mil. start on a 3rd winner etc... for every fifty mil. have a new winner. If this is possible, it would really be great.. 50 Mil. is more than enough for anyone including myself. I truly believe it would bring in more players also. Thanx !!

here's a good one ! I played pick4 "any" on a set of numbers for 14 straight days, then stopped. Guess when it came up? right. day 15 - not exact order but I was playing "any" order anyway!!! I'll do it again, for 15 days next time!

@ LOVEROFSAND - It's all just a matter of random chance. Raleigh and Wake County players have won a lot of prizes, and, in fact - this is news that will be officially released tomorrow - but a $250,000 Mega Millions ticket was purchased in Raleigh for Friday's drawing. Stay tuned for more details on that...

Anyone else ticked that lottery is in Raleigh and noone from Raleigh ever wins any more. When $10.00 tickets come to Raleigh alot of winner were here 1000.00, 10,000,00, ect. Now it is rare to so a winner in Raleigh at all.

I think it should be about time for the Powerball to re-introduce the 10x powerplay for a few weeks (before the singleton ticket jumps to 2 bucks in January). And...its ok if the 10x powerplay is only for us Carolinians !!
