Among the biggest winners of the week, a retired art teacher from Ohio got more than a little "R&R" on his way to vacation in Ocracoke. A quick stop and a Powerball purchase at The Border Station in Moyock in Currituck County led to a $200,000 win. In addition, the 25th and 26th Cumberland County residents to ever win a Cash 5 jackpot claimed prizes of $369,616 and $139,065 this week.
During the Powerball jackpot run that started July 2 and ended Wednesday night, N.C. players won more than $5.6 million in prizes, including: two $1 million prizes, four $200,000 prizes, two $30,000 prizes, one $20,000 prize and 20 $10,000 prizes. Early estimates tell us that the stretch of wins also generated more than $7 million for education - made possible thanks to local retailers and players across the state. With the jackpot-winning ticket sold in Minnesota for Wednesday's drawing, Saturday's Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million.
The jackpot for tonight's Mega Millions drawing is estimated at $16 million. A $10,000 Mega Millions winner, Pedro Lopez of Garland, won $10,000 in Tuesday's drawing.
Recapping prizes paid to draw game players since Thursday August 4th, Pick 3 players won more than $1.9 million, Pick 4 players won more than $955,000 (including 53 $5,000-winning tickets), and Cash 5 players won more than $634,000. Tonight's Cash 5 jackpot is estimated at $185,000.
Last, but certainly not least, instant winners cashed in more than $10.4 million in prizes state-wide since last Thursday. The top win went to Ana Rodriguez of Ramseur. She won $50,000 instantly on a Loteria ticket. Five other players won $10,000 instantly playing $200 Million Extravaganza, 200,000 a Year for Life and Jumbo Bucks.
