While many North Carolinians enjoy an extended holiday weekend, the jackpots for Carolina Cash 5, Mega Millions and Powerball aren’t taking any time off. Let’s start there as we rewind this week’s lottery winners.
The Cash 5 jackpot is back up to $100,000 for Friday’s drawing after a Scotland County man landed one of the biggest jackpots ever awarded to a single winner in the game’s history. Marcus Watson claimed his $642,892 prize after playing the same numbers for two years. In all, Cash 5 players won more than $1 million in the last week.
Taking a look at Mega Millions, Friday’s jackpot is estimated at $29 million. Since last week’s wrap-up, a Statesville player Megaplied her way to a $40,000 win in Tuesday’s drawing.
Moving onto the third jackpot up for grabs,Powerball is at $91 million and could top $100 million if the jackpot rolls after Saturday’s drawing. In recent Powerball winner news, a Lexington player won $30,000 while a $10,000 win went to a player from Durham. We still don't know who bought a $10,000-winning ticket for the August 31 drawing at The Service Mart on Highway 210 in Smithfield.
Since Thursday, August 25, Pick 3 players won more than $2 million. The largest payout came on Thursday, September 1 when players won more than $295,000. Among Pick 4 wins, 28 tickets were $5,000 winners to drive more than $488,000 in total prizes.
Instant winners scratched off more than $9.5 million this week. A child nutritionist from Buncombe County credits a lucky penny with helping her win $150,000 playing Cash Bonanza. Here at Lottery HQ in Raleigh, we met a Raleigh player who won three prizes on three tickets – including the top prize playing $125,000 Casino Cash. The last winner on this week’s list is actually at the top of the list when it comes to lottery wins in Madison County. A homemaker from Mars Hill won $50,000 instantly playing Junior Big Ol’ Bucks.
That’s it for this week – hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day weekend. See you in the Lucke-Zone on Tuesday!
