Pair of Cash 5 tickets split $234,832 jackpot

The Carolina Cash 5 jackpot club could be adding to its membership soon after a pair of tickets matched all five numbers in Friday’s drawing. Lucky players bought the tickets at stores in Fayetteville and Winston-Salem to win $117,416 each. Just last week, a $304,672 Cash 5 jackpot was awarded to another Winston-Salem player. Three Fayetteville players claimed Cash 5 jackpots within a two-week span over the summer.

As is always the case with winning tickets, it is possible that they belong to individual players or perhaps groups who play together. We also won’t find out if the ticketholders are from the areas where the tickets were sold until they come forward to claim. Winners are advised to sign the back of winning tickets immediately to establish ownership, but have 180 days from the date of a drawing to claim prizes.

These winning Cash 5 tickets happened to be sold in areas with relatively large populations. But the odds of winning are the same no matter where a ticket is purchased. Over the past few months we've awarded Cash 5 jackpots to winners from smaller places like Granite Falls, Calabash, Winterville, Brevard, Whiteville, Hamlet and Stanley.

Carolina Gold has been out for over a week any big winners yet? Just curious I've played loyally for first week and nothing to boast about yet! I'm very optimistic though and feel a big win is on the way.

@ BENNIE - Once you've successfully entered your ticket into the second chance drawing, it is *not* necessarily to retain the ticket. You can if you want but you don't have to.

There is not a central HQ for Powerball and Mega Millions. States that sell those games, like we do in North Carolina, have their own terminals and networks. Each and every possible number combination for draw games have the same chance of winning, regardless of whether it is a Quick Pick, personal pick, sold in North Carolina or sold anywhere else.

Is there a terminal at HQ that produces all the powerball and Mega Million tickets?Are you saying I can buy a ticket in Raleigh and the next ticket from the terminal can be sold in New York?

@bkearney220 - We are alerted to the location of winning jackpot game tickets because they are sold through our terminals. The scratch-off games are spread at random throughout the state, so we don't know where they are until they are validated.

@ TONYALLENCZY - P.S. New Hanover County has had 10 winners claim shares of Cash 5 jackpots... mostly in 2008 & 2009, but one for $236,356 went to a Wilmington player back in April of this year.

@ TONYALLENCZY - By definition, randomness means that winners can come from anywhere; where winning tickets were sold for one drawing has no effect on where someone might buy a winning ticket for another drawing. The way the N.C. Education Lottery conducts games for players is something that is reviewed and audited on a regular basis to ensure that games are fair to everyone.

i tried to tell you all the lottery is fixed now maybe you will believe me how ironic is it that you get two big winners in a row from winstonsalem out of all the tickets sold i have not seen one from newhanover cty its because the numbers are already picked they say not but some of our biggest crooks work for our state
