The biggest prizes awarded this week went to winners of $200,000 in the Extreme Green game. William Sharon, who is from Stokesdale in Guilford County, got his winning ticket as an “early birthday present” from his adult daughter. Lori Hurdle, a paper mill operator from Williamston in Martin County, arrived at lottery headquarters to claim her Extreme Green winnings in a brand new Chevrolet Silverado truck.
A pair of Carolina Cash 5 jackpots were claimed by Wake County players. Mary Quinn of Holly Springs won $126,958 using the same lucky numbers she’s been playing since the Cash 5 began. “It’s going to be awhile before I stop smiling,” she said. Cary resident Amitkumar Kharva plans to use his $193,833 Cash 5 jackpot to pay down his mortgage and save for the future. “I never thought I’d win this kind of money,” he said. “It’s like a dream.”
Looking at North Carolina’s draw games, Pick 3 players won more than $1.9 million while 25 top prizes of $5,000 pushed the week’s Pick 4 payout to more than $561,000. Cash 5 players won more than $370,000.
Speaking of jackpots, the Powerball jackpot rolled from $81.4 million on Wednesday to $100 million for Saturday’s drawing. Under the new game structure, the Powerball jackpot will rise by at least $10 million for the next drawing. You can read more about the new features in the Powerball game here. At $60 million, Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot has been on a roll too.
More than $12 million in instant prizes were scratched off over the last seven days. Aside from our $200,000 Extreme Green winners, there were several other big instant prizes this week, including a $10,000 Extreme Green prize for a Salisbury player. Wins of $20,000 went to players from Marshall, Robbins and Lincolnton. A Claremont player won $25,000 playing 5X the Money, and a $30,000 prize was awarded to a Blackout Bingo! winner from Statesville.
