A pair of tickets for North Carolina’s jackpot game, Carolina Cash 5, led to two of this week’s biggest lottery wins. Audrey Childers, a school bus driver and substitute teacher from Mount Holly, won half of the $566,968 jackpot in the Feb. 10 drawing. “I’m in a dream,” she said as she collected her $283,484 share. “I can’t believe it. I told my husband I was going to win. Now he believes me.”

Watch a short YouTube video of our other Cash 5 jackpot winner this week, Mark Tallent of Connelly Springs, talk about what he might do with his $155,807 jackpot: Head west to prospect for gold!

A forklift driver from West Jefferson hauled in $250,000 playing Mega Millions after his ticket matched all five white balls in the Feb. 10 drawing. “You feel good,” said Jeff Farrington of his good luck. “I’m just thankful.”

Speaking of Mega Millions, a $10,000 prize in the Feb. 17 drawing was awarded to Julian Williams of New Bern. Another Mega Millions player won big in the Feb. 21 drawing. We don’t yet know who bought the $30,000-winning ticket at the Shop N Save on N.C. 73 in Denver, North Carolina.

Two Power Play tickets are worth $40,000 in the Feb. 18 Powerball drawing. Edward Griffin of Washington won on the ticket he bought at the Shop N Go on N.C. 171 in Washington. The other ticket, sold at Lowe’s Foods on Widewaters Parkway in Knightdale, has yet to be claimed.

An Extreme Green prize of $200,000 was the biggest instant win of the week. Watch a short YouTube video of Ralph Fernandez, an Iraq War veteran, talk about how he happened to buy his lucky ticket on his way to pick up his son from school.

And with the excitement of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, we had our first $100,000 winner in the officially licensed NASCAR® scratch-off game, Ultimate Fan. Duane and Carol Burton of Clinton won the prize in the course of their Saturday morning routine - running errands, and playing a few lottery tickets.

Other big scratch-off wins this week include $10,000 prizes to players from Mebane on Cash Spectacular and Lillington on $200,000 a Year for Life. Players from Littleton and Harrisburg won $20,000 apiece playing Sterling Silver and $4,000,000 Cash Blowout, respectively. A $24,000 prize in the Pure Gold game went to a Durham player. And a Fast Cash Bingo player from West End won $30,000.

So there’s a look at who won big playing the lottery this week. Where will lucky tickets show up next time? Check back with us here in the Lucke-Zone to find out.

bought a 10.00 dollars ticket tonight, first one I have bought in awhile.won 20.00 dollars on it. still waiting on the big one...

@bk: I have purchase the 10.00 dollar and 20.00 dollars scratchs offs since they came out,I have not won anything on them either..YET..but I will when the right one gets pulled out. I buy alot of 5.00 dollar scratch offs, have better luck with them, cause I can buy 4 of them for 20.00 bucks instead of just one ticket for 20.00 dollars.

@bk,I don't think you have the worst luck in NC.you probably have NO luck. I buy tickets all the time, and I do win on my tickets. It's very hard for me to think that you have never won more than a dollar on the lottery. What games do you play? I'm sure you can win something...

@ BK - Above all else, we respect your decision to play or not play the lottery. It is important to remember that whether you have never played before, played once, or played a hundred times has no impact on your odds of winning on the next ticket. We award about $2.4 million a day in prizes to winners from all over the state but there's never, ever a guarantee of winning and that's why we encourage people only to play if they're doing it for fun. If you're not enjoying yourself, then you might want to consider taking a break from playing our games.

OK! You tell me how to enjoy the lottery if all I have seen is loosing tickets?$1.00 is all I have ever won and I have hundreds and hundreds of tickets.Luck does not happen in the same regions!!!!This is B-=-- not luck.I am agreeing with some of the other posters about the NC Lottery,it is a fox in the bushes,

@ PLAYER - We understand that the changes to Powerball aren't for everyone. You could play Mega Millions with the Megaplier for the same price you used to play Powerball if you'd like to play the way you used to. Best of luck on whatever game you play!

Well Just to be Honest.. Since the changes in the price of the powerball drawings it has had the reverse affect as I am sure they intended.. I used to buy 10 set of numbers with the powerplay and spend $20.. I am not comfortable with the new $30 price tag for the same amount..I wish I could get a 50% raise over night.. What if gas prices went from $4 a gallon to $8 a gallon overnight..There would be a revolt.. By the way.. since the change I have not won one single dollar from my twice a week $15 spending. bummer

@ BKEARNY - You should only play the lottery if you enjoy playing for a chance to win. It takes luck to win a prize, big or small. The only "same region" that the following winner's hometowns have in common is that they're all in North Carolina: Mount Holly, Connelly Springs, West Jefferson, New Bern, Denver, Washington, Sanford, Clinton, Mebane, Lillington, Littleton, Harrisburg, Durham and West End... it's all a matter of luck.

2/29/2012 02:43 - Barbara K.

It's not the size of the city but where it is located. Most winners are in the same region.Would love to see some winners in some of those towns that have not had many ,if any winners.I am sorry but I don't care how populated an area is,scratch off can only have winners if they are sent to that area.I have purchased scratch off after scratch off and just like the powerball and mega million,no winner.I even purchased a$20.00 $4,000,000 cash blowout and didn't even win anything ,but look at all the others in other locations that have won.

my time is coming its always a chance but not if you dont play

2/28/2012 01:31 - NC Lottery

@ RDN - Did you take a close look at this blog entry? Some of the scratch-off winners were from Sanford, Clinton, Mebane, Lillington, Littleton, Harrisburg and West End.. not exactly big cities!

2/28/2012 11:53 - cheryl l.

seems as though the big winners on scratch offs are always the bigger towns and not the smaller ones

2/28/2012 11:33 - NC Lottery

@ CAV235 - Its more likely that a lottery ticket wont be a winner than that it will be a winner. But you never know, that's the fun! We wish you the best of luck.

2/28/2012 08:49 - Roger K.

congrats to all the winners, waiting on my turn to win big. cash5 was won last night.I did win again on my cash5,won 3 dollars on my ticket...bought 10.00 dollars worth on tickets.

2/27/2012 06:00 - Donnell G.

I drive to 17 miles to Belmont all the time to buy lotto tickets...that's where the ncel sends most the big tickets if a winner is to come out of gaston county. The other day a man won a million on the extreme green...the same store where i buy. Its about demographics.

2/27/2012 12:06 - marriette b.

looking for a win on the scratch of cards and praying that more winners in the gastonia area go gastonia

2/27/2012 12:51 - kathleen v.

2/26/2012 06:52 - Booker T I.
