Three ticketholders who play jackpot games in North Carolina won big over the weekend.
In Monday’s Carolina Cash 5 drawing, two tickets matched all five numbers to split the $554,932 jackpot and win $277,466 apiece. The tickets were sold at the Ready Mart on North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro, and at the Derita BP Amoco on West Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte. The winning numbers for Monday’s Cash 5 drawing were: 6-9-14-34-37.
Because no ticket matched all six numbers in Saturday’s Powerball drawing, the jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing rolled to an estimated $146 million. A ticket sold in Raleigh, however, did match four white balls and the Powerball to win $10,000. A lucky player bought the ticket at the Food Lion on Capital Boulevard. The winning numbers for the drawing were: 13-14-41-49-59 and 14 for the red Powerball.
The lottery advises players to sign winning tickets immediately to establish ownership, but reminds winners they have 180 days from the date of a drawing to collect their winnings. For prizes of $100,000 or more, winners must complete the claims process at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
While the Carolina Cash 5 jackpot resets to $50,000 for the Tuesday, May 29 drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot for the same date has grown to an estimated $32 million if taken as an annuity. If a single jackpot winner were to claim the prize as a one-time lump sum, it would be worth $24.2 million.
