Earlier this month, the Luck-e Zone promoted a contest to select the Grand Marshal and the Honorary Starter at this year’s NCEL 200 truck race. We are excited to announce that the finalists have been chosen from the more than 700 entries.
Clayton Lanier, a resident of Winston-Salem, will be the Grand Marshall for the NCEL 200 truck race, occurring on May 18. He will be front and center just before the race begins, preparing to say the most famous phrase in racing: “Drivers … START! YOUR! ENGINES!”
“When they called me to tell me I had won, I didn’t believe it was real,” Lanier said. “It took me a while to realize the magnitude of what I had won. I’m very excited.”
Frank Edens, an IT professional from Hamlet in Richmond County, will serve as the race’s Honorary Starter. He will have the ceremonial duty of climbing into the crow’s nest and waving the green flag, signifying the race has started.
Edens said he was excited when he got the call notifying him of his once-in-a-lifetime prize.
“I’ve loved racing when I was growing up,” Edens said. “I got out of it for a bit, but after the last race at Rockingham and now this, my enjoyment of the sport has been rekindled.”
Lanier and Edens both receive the complete VIP experience during the NCEL 200 race, including hotel accommodations, pit passes and a behind-the-scenes look at all the action. They will also receive a pair of tickets to the NCEL 200, the NASCAR Sprint Series All-Star race, the History 300 and the Coca Cola 600.
Twenty-three runners up were selected to win two tickets to each of the following races:
• Two (2) tickets to the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 (Friday, May 18th)
• Two (2) tickets to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All Star Race (Saturday, May 19th)
• Two (2) tickets to the History 300 (Saturday, May 26th)
• Two (2) tickets to the Coca Cola 600 (Sunday, May 27th)
We’ll be on-location for both weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway. So if you’re in attendance, stop on by and say hello!
