The biggest lottery wins this week are for North Carolina’s jackpot game, Carolina Cash 5. In the drawing held on Memorial Day, two tickets matched all five numbers to split the $554,932 jackpot. One of those winners, a forklift operator from Charlotte, has collected his $277,466 share. “This is one of the better days of my life,” Shaw Elder said. “I’m going to pay my mortgage off, pay bills, and take a vacation ... something simple, to inhale, take it all in, give thanks and be happy.”
Who bought the other Cash 5 ticket worth $277,466 is still a mystery. It was sold at the Ready Mart on North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro in Randolph County.
Another Cash 5 player hit the jackpot on a ticket purchased in Wake County. Desire Kilmer of Cottekill, New York came to the Tar Heel state to visit her father. Before heading home, she bought a $1 Carolina Cash 5 ticket at the Variety Pic-Up on N.C. 97 in Wendell. Kilmer didn’t think about the ticket again until a week later when her dad telephoned to ask if she had checked the numbers. She discovered her ticket was the only one to match all five numbers in the May 18 drawing to win the $203,658 jackpot.
Heading into the weekend, the Cash 5 jackpot had rolled to $136,000 and the Mega Millions jackpot stood at $12 million. If a ‘perfect’ Mega Millions ticket sold in North Carolina matches all six numbers, it would mean our third-ever Mega Millions jackpot winner!
While we’re talking about jackpots, the one up for grabs on Saturday night is hard to miss. At $164 million, the Powerball jackpot hasn’t been this big since April 25.
Looking at North Carolina’s other draw games since last week’s update, Pick 3 players won more than $1.8 million in prizes and Pick 4 players won more than $600,000, including 25 top prizes of $5,000.
Of the more than $11.2 million instant prizes won this week, here are this week’s winners of the largest prizes. Players from Durham and Greensboro won $10,000 apiece playing 20X the Money. Another $10,000 Cash Spectacular prize was awarded to a Belhaven winner. It was a $4,000,000 Cash Blowout ticket that led to $20,000 for a player from Graham. A $24,000 prize went to a Claremont winner who scratched it off playing Pure Gold. And top honors for instant wins this week belong to a $50,000 Jumbo Bucks winner from Raleigh.
As always, thanks for playing and spending time with us here in the Lucke-Zone. Until next time, we wish everyone a fun and safe weekend.
