This Week: A pair of $1 million prizes, a trio of jackpots

"One million dollars" - three small words that meant big luck on two Powerball tickets this week. Travis Craft of Cornelius won his $1 million prize in the June 9 drawing. The winner of $1 million in the June 13 drawing is a mystery. That winning ticket was sold at the Roadrunner Market on Dellwood Road in Waynesville.

One of three Carolina Cash 5 jackpots won this week was split by two tickets in the June 11 drawing. One winner, Delmar Breeze of Hillsborough, has already collected his $25,000 share. The other ticket, sold at the Calabash Citgo on Beach Drive in Calabash, is unclaimed.

The $95,379 jackpot in the June 10 Cash 5 drawing belongs to one man: Cleveland Perry, Jr. of Seaboard. In Winston-Salem, at the Family Fare on Reynolda Road, someone bought a Cash 5 ticket worth $96,552 in the June 14 drawing.

A group of 14 Powerball players won $10,000 on the ticket they purchased at the Food Lion on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh. Two more Powerball prizes of $10,000 were awarded to Kathleen Sheller of Kenly and Dorsey Lundy of Thomasville. Heading into Saturday's drawing, the jackpot was reset at $40 million.

Two tickets won $10,000 in the June 8 Mega Millions drawing. A Charlotte player, Mark Sergeant, collected his prize money. The other ticket, sold at the Sheetz on West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro, is unclaimed. Friday's Mega Millions jackpot was estimated at $39 million.

Since last week's update, players have collected more than $11.5 million in prizes from instant games. A pair of players scratched off $10,000 apiece playing $200,000 a Year for Life. Those winners are Kelly Smith of Henderson, and William Williamson of Stovall.

How about our North Carolina draw game totals? Carolina Pick 3 players won more than $1.9 million; Carolina Pick 4 players won more than $676,000, including 28 top prizes of $5,000; and Carolina Cash 5 players won more than $418,000. Friday's Cash 5 jackpot was reset at $50,000.

In all, the Education Lottery awarded more than $15 million in prizes to players of lottery games since June 7. Check back with us next week for more on lucky tickets and lucky winners here in North Carolina. Until then, we hope you enjoy your weekend!

jeffreyhrn - Seventeen Scratch-off players from those areas mentioned have won from $10,00 to $77,000. Ten Cash 5 players have won from $50,000 to $416,702. Twenty-one Powerball players won $10,000 to $200,000.

@Mimi45 - There have actually been quite a few Powerball wins in Gastonia, including three $1 million winners, two $200,000 winners and 14 winners of $10,000 to $30,000. As always, we wish you the very best of luck!

@JIM243 - We have security protocols that must be adhered to for drawings. These protocols dictate that every online game, including national games like Powerball and Mega Millions, must have a draw break to ensure that everything is done in a fair and secure fashion. All of our drawings are conducted under the watch of third party auditors so that what your associate spoke of can never occur. Please let us know if you would like to attend a drawing to see for yourself the security measures that the lottery adheres to.

Just a suggestion that would make a tremendous increase in the purchase of Pick3, 4 and Cash 5 sales! There are a lot of people I know, or have spoke with that refuse to buy these tickets because of the 11:00pm cut off time. They feel tickets should be able to be purchased up to the drawing time, and that the 11:00 cut off time, gives NCEL 22 minutes to see what number combinations have or have not been played. As I was told yesterday by a associate, " With a touch of a button on the main computer they know exactly which combinations have or have not been played, and what location they have been played, don't kid yourself and stop wasting your money." This may be something NCEL may want to think about!

The largest amount that I've ever won was on a scratch-off, for 100 dollars. I don't play very often, but when I do play I usually win a little something. I'm online now checking on my carolina gold ticket which didn't win. Good luck to me in future drawings.
