NCEL Weekly Wrap-up

July 6, 2012 Posted by NC Lottery at 3:15 PM

Even though many of our players are on vacation this week, we'd just like to remind you that the Powerball jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is an estimated $70 million if taken as an annuity or $46.3 million if taken as a lump sum. We have more than 6,700 retailers across the state and we'd love it if one of them sold the 6th jackpot-winning ticket this weekend.

Let's talk about the big winners from this past week.

Mikala Fields, a college student from Oak Island in Brunswick County, plans to buy a house and attend nusing school after she scratched off a $1 million prize.

“I scratched it off a little and thought I had only won a dollar,” Fields said. “But then I went back and saw there was more to it. It was awesome. I didn’t think it was real. It still doesn’t feel real now.”

Shawn White of Kannapolis
is the fourth lottery player to win the top prize in the Ultimate Fan game, officially-licensed by NASCAR®. White joins winners from Clinton, Jacksonville, and Tobaccoville who have claimed $100,000 prizes playing the game.

In all, the Education Lottery awarded more than $16 million in prizes to players of lottery games.

Carolina Cash 5 Players in the Piedmont should check their tickets from the June 30 drawing. A ticket sold in Rockingham County matched all five numbers and is worth $244,086. The ticket was sold at Garrett Mini Mart on East Main Street in Stoneville.

That about wraps up this wrap-up. Have a safe and lucky weekend!

@ MACMILLION & @ DEEP1 - That's a very serious accusation. The lottery's practices are audited on a regular basis to ensure everyone who plays has the same chance of winning. Thanks for taking time to comment on the blog.

About the stolen ticket, of course someone at the top of the NCEL knows where the jackpot scratch off tickets are going. Every single ticket has a barcode on them, and the manufacturer of the tickets knows the winners from this computer system. The trick is to keep them out of higly concentrated minority areas.

earl, the ncel claims they don't know where the scratchers are going!

To everyone that has questions about the stolen ticket story: Please see our press release here at http://nc-educationlottery.org/news/2012/7/11/Lottery-takes-steps-to-recover-prize-money

@Winfield and @EARL2212 - We pay out on average more than $2 million a day to players across the state. Best of luck to both of you!

@Scratchhappy - There are currently no plans announced for a regional office in Fayetteville. That said, congratulations! How much did you win?

somebody tip him off. they need to collect a whole lot of back money. i DON'T TRUST any of this! look at the places that win the most of them are down EAST!!!!

Thanks, and I hope the ongoing legal process will explain how he knew to steal this particular ticket. Something is amiss here, and we will be watching.

7/13/2012 09:14 - winfield p.

why does the very big MAJORITY OF WINNERS in all games come from the western part of the state??????????????????????????????????

7/13/2012 08:27 - Sonya R.

Any chance that Fayetteville will oneday have a office where locals can redeem winning lottery tickets? Thank you I won and I am so tickled!

All I can say is GOOD LUCK to everyone who plays.I love to hear about ppl winning, specially if they really needed the money and not someone that is already on top of the world. Good Luck :)

per the internet...her husband stole a 20x scratch ticket, worth $1,000,000 and she cashed it in. The lottery has her listed as a winner from Brunswick County in this blog, MIKALA FIELDS...maybe need to delete that one! lol

@ LUCKLESS - The individual has been arrested and charged. The details and facts of what happened will come out of the ongoing legal process.

7/12/2012 03:55 - jerry s.

I saw where the husband of a million dollar winner was arrested for "illegally obtaining the ticket at the store where he worked." Now, my question is, how did he know the ticket was a million dollar winner?

Hi Nina - We've tried to provide this information to you before. One, you can click on the "2ND CHANCE" button here in the Lucke-Zone and see what games have entry available right now. Also, just click on the Instant Scratch-Offs page of our website and take a look at the games. If there's a 2nd Chance option, you will see it mentioned.

7/11/2012 07:33 - Nina W.

Back to scratch off 2nd Chance drawings...how can I tell which scratch off's offer 2nd Chance drawings? Thanks again!

7/10/2012 10:42 - NC Lottery

@ 1ROCK2KING - Definitely stay tuned to the Lucke-Zone for announcements about new games ;-)

7/09/2012 10:26 - NC Lottery

@ NINA W - No, only particular games can be entered into second chance drawings.

7/09/2012 10:24 - NC Lottery

@ JOHNNY CAKE - We had a Beulaville winner scratch off a $10,000 prize on a $200,000 a Year for Life ticket in April... since the lottery began through June 30, 2011, players in Duplin won more than $28.7 million in prizes - it's all a matter of luck no matter where you live or play!

7/09/2012 06:04 - Nina W.

Do all scratch off tickets have a 2nd chance drawing? If so why can't they be entered while the game is still on, like Wheel of Fortune? I have several game tickets from different games ie, Big Ol' Bucks; Money, Money, Money; Maximum Green, etc. Thanks

7/08/2012 10:45 - Karen M.

I hope that I can report a major win very soon.

7/08/2012 02:34 - johnny c.

Why is it that Duplin County is never in the Winners circle?
