Estimated at $737,000 for Wednesday's drawing, the Cash 5 jackpot is the largest players have had the chance to win this year. The jackpot has been rolling since it was won in back-to-back drawings on Aug. 11 and 12. The odds of a ticket matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 575,757.
If a single ticket were to win the jackpot Wednesday, it would be one of the largest Cash 5 jackpots ever awarded to an individual winner. In 2006, a Brunswick County player won $731,836. Last April, a Charlotte player won $773,609. The top Cash 5 jackpot winner in NCEL history is a Greenville player who won $856,998 in November of 2007.
Interest in jackpot games has been high this year. Just last week, Powerball made national headlines. In March, the Mega Millions jackpot set the world record. Overshadowed in the excitement of that historic run was the Cash 5 jackpot, which rolled all the way to $701,751 before being split by three lucky tickets in the March 29 drawing.
