Extra chances to win $50,000 in Bonus Bucks drawings

A special promotion for North Carolina’s jackpot game gives Carolina Cash 5 players five extra chances to win as much as $50,000.

Between now and next summer, the lottery will hold five Cash 5 Bonus Bucks drawings. For each drawing, five prizes will be awarded: One $50,000 grand prize, one $5,000 prize, and three $1,000 prizes.

The promotion starts on Sunday, Sept. 9 and it’s easy to be eligible to win. To get any entry slip for a Bonus Bucks drawing, make a $5 Cash 5 purchase in one of the two following ways:

Select five sets of numbers for one drawing on a single ticket purchase
Choose one set of numbers for five drawings on a single ticket purchase

When you do this, an entry slip will be automatically generated (at no extra cost) along with your separate $5 Carolina Cash 5 ticket. Make sure to get your Cash 5 ticket and your entry slip at the time of purchase – and keep them both. After all, both could make you a winner!

Please note that the lottery’s computer system cannot create multiple Bonus Bucks entry slips for one Cash 5 ticket. That means buying $10 in Cash 5 tickets at once will not create two Bonus Bucks entries and buying a 28-day Multi-Draw ticket will not generate five entries. If you want more than one Bonus Bucks entry, divide up your Cash 5 ticket purchases into one of the two ways mentioned above.

The physical entry slip is important. If a winning 9-digit number drawn at random matches your Bonus Bucks entry slip, you win a prize. To claim a Bonus Bucks prize, the winning entry slip must be presented.

Starting Sept. 9, entry slips will be valid for the first Bonus Bucks drawing. When an entry slip is generated after the first entry deadline, it will be valid for the next drawing. Here is the complete schedule:

Draw #1 - Entry Deadline: Nov. 7, 2012 Drawing Date: Nov. 14, 2012
Draw #2 - Entry Deadline: Jan. 9, 2013 Drawing Date: Jan. 16, 2013
Draw #3 - Entry Deadline: March 13, 2013 Drawing Date: March 20, 2013
Draw #4 - Entry Deadline: May 15, 2013 Drawing Date: May 22, 2013
Draw #5 - Entry Deadline: July 17, 2013 Drawing Date: July. 24, 2013

To find out if you are a winner in a Cash 5 Bonus Bucks Drawing, check the lottery’s website after the drawing. The five prize-winning numbers selected in a random drawing will be posted there. Prizes won in the Bonus Bucks drawings must be claimed at one of the lottery’s regional claim centers, or by mail.

There are many ways you can learn more about Cash 5 Bonus Bucks drawings. As we get closer to Sept. 9, check the lottery website for information about the promotion. Bonus Bucks how to play brochures can be picked up at lottery retailers. For specific questions you can call the player hotline at (877) 962-7529.

@ K MC - Please avoid using that particular four-letter word when posting comments on the blog. Its important that the Lucke-Zone be a place where everyone feels comfortable visiting to get and share information about lottery games. The drawings are totally random. Not sure what you're referring to as far as someone from another state winning "our" lottery - if you mean Powerball or Mega Millions, those games are played in states across the United States, that's how the jackpots are able to reach such huge amounts. On the last cash 5 bonus bucks game I had 221 entries in it. It obviously don't matter how many entrie slips you have in the game.. you still are going to win or loose and more than likely loose. I purchase cash 5 tickets each day, sometimes more than one is how I accumulated that many.. maybe some day...

Some type of training of this needs to be given the store clerks and then reported back to NCEL. Twice I have had to ask for my drawing slip (different person and store) and one had thrown it in the trash!! They had no idea what it was. In something this valuable NCEL should require a response from stores that the operators/employees have been made aware of these promotions. How many people have maybe had one coming to them, they weren't aware of it and the clerk kept it or threw it away???

I agree with wickedwanda, there is an excess of winners in the area she spoke of. I have noticed this for a long time.. Especially scratch off tickets which they have more control of distribution.. This bonus cash 5 is a ripoff. They will sell millions of more dollars in tickets and after the time period they will pay crumbs to the citizens of N.C.It may be time for a change at the lottery headquarters.. As long as this group is runnig things most winners will be central N.C. and eastern part of the state where there is a strong democratic base to support them..

The POWER-UP option costs an extra dollar per play.If you purchase the POWER-UP multiplier option and win a prize, the prize will automatically be multiplied by the POWER-UP number drawn.The POWER-UP number is randomly drawn from sixteen balls: eight balls are marked with the number “2”; five are marked with the number “3”; two are marked with the number “4”; and one is marked with the number “5.”Maybe just have the number 2, all the time to mulitiply. i've seen a few people say they wish our cash 5 had 2 drawing a day like other states....probably 1 thing they dont know is most states that ive seen that have 2 draws per day only have a SET AMOUNT that you can win all the TIME .....its not a rolling jackpot like NC'S....I think people like the big jackpots that our cash 5 offers....VA offers you 3 ways to play cash 5 but its same amount all the time tho with less numbers in it then ours........the only thing i would like to see changed on our cash 5 is take about 3 numbers out of the number picks.....AND DONT GO UP ON THE PRICE.....think we would have more winners and more people playing also

Cash 5 is the only one I usually play. Your chances of being struck by lightning are far better than winning either of the "big" lotteries. A simple statistical fact. One of the earlier posters mentioned words to the effect that most of the big wins go to the areas outside the mountains; especially around the bigger cities. Again its statistics working against you. I don't know what the statistics are on wins outside the mountains, but I'm sure it's far higher than the wins in the mountains. Again, the great majority of North Carolinians live outside the mountains, so the odds are obviously favoring the non-mountaineers. The only real option (which would never happen) is to have a lottery for each county.So we just have to deal with what we've got.
