Players from Garner and Lexington win $500 twice

Since Lucke-Rewards started on Oct. 1, several players asked if the rules allowed for members to win a prize in more than one drawing. The answer is yes. Just ask Claire Hinspeter of Garner and Starr Hill of Lexington. Each of them won $500 in the Jan. 9 and the Jan. 16 ‘Five for $500’ drawings.

While Hinspeter and Starr had extraordinary luck, the drawings were held according to standard procedures always in place. All Lucke-Rewards drawings are conducted using a random number generator, under the supervision of an auditor, according to specific security procedures.

A two-part review of the most recent drawing confirmed that standard procedures were used. An internal review verified that every step was followed to ensure the integrity of the drawing. The external review, conducted by the auditing firm Thomas & Gibbs, upheld the validity of the drawing process. With the winners confirmed, the lottery began the winner notification process.

The notification of winners in a Lucke-Rewards drawing begins only after all security and validation procedures are complete. After successful notification, winners must complete the claim process before any announcement is made.

This is something that many players have asked about, so here’s how the notification and claim process works. A winner receives a message from the lottery sent to the e-mail address associated with his or her Lucke-Zone account. This usually happens within 24 hours after the drawing. If the player does not respond by e-mail, the lottery attempts contact by telephone. When contact can’t be made by phone, the lottery sends a letter by certified mail.

The entire notification process can take many days. But even then, a winner won’t be announced until he or she completes the claim process. Sometimes, winners respond to the lottery’s notification and claim quickly. Other winners take more time to contact or need more time to claim.

We’re just as excited as players are to talk about who won in Lucke-Rewards drawings. So we hope this information helps show why the timing of those announcements can vary quite a bit.

@ PLAYER (M517) - We appreciate you sharing your point of view about this, just as we welcome people's comments who disagree with the lottery's rules.

Are you people serious? If you play your points 20 times or more in several drawings wouldn't you want to be entered into those other drawings even if you won once? For instance you win a 500 drawing one week but have entered points for let's say another drawing for 100,000 because you won 500 you never want to win again ? What's the point ? I have never won yet but it's people that complain that cause these types of drawings to be stopped.you have nothing but complaining. It's a chance some people are just lucky . It's not an entitlement folks they don't have to do them at all. If you don't like it don't play. Everyone earns their points the same way by playing their money. They have the same right as you do . Just because someone feels they deserve it more doesn't change the facts. If it was you that won twice as I hope I do you would be quite. Your points and theirs are equal and if they play them they should have the same chance each time . Get over it .

Im not complaining...Congrats to the winners..I never have seen any1 from my hometown to win, I play every week and I havent won which I never win anything anyway I thought it was bogus at 1st but I guess people are really winning.. CONGRATS to all the winners!!

I am happy for Claire and Starr!! I enjoy playing the lottery and understand that it is a "gamble" anytime you play. Whether it is a scratch off,powerball,cash5,etc.Or if you enter drawings on luck-e zone.I will never get angry or jealous of another's good fortune. There have been plenty of times I have won $100,$50,$200,even $500 when my friend that got a ticket didn't win,and vice versa. On a $1 ticket, the odds of winning a $500 prize are at best 1 in 100,000. They said 69,410 entries were made for the Jan. 16 drawing, if you assume most people enter a drawing an average of 15 times, that means a 1 in 4627 chance of winning. Those aren't bad odds to me!! So I will keep entering and scratching, and I think my big winning day will come too!!! Negativity just brings you more negativity, try being happy for the winners!!!

I WONDER IF THE ONES COMPLAINING ABOUT A PERSON WINNING MORE THAN ONCE WOULD BE COMPLAINING IF THAT WERE YOU

1/28/2013 04:06 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (B) - Once you've entered tickets for Lucke Rewards points, you don't need to keep them.

1/28/2013 02:05 - Denver G.

well congrats to these 2 extremly lucky ladies! I can't wait to see 1 person win twice the same week ! Hey it's possible guys. Eaze up and be glad there is a 2nd chance drawing weekly & monthly. Don't be so neagtive ! Think positive thoughts and good things will happen .

1/28/2013 01:23 - Lisa B.

Do you need to save losing tickets once you enter them in lucky rewards or can you throw them away???

1/28/2013 10:44 - m. earl b.

thanks for your response to my question. now i know to look for these same names in the future in most of your games. thanks!

1/27/2013 07:56 - NC Lottery

@ CHRIS28411 - We'll forward your suggestion to the marketing/web folks. Please understand that its not likely that entry totals will be automatically posted as a function of the Lucke Zone website any time soon, but its possible it could be updated in the future. Thanks for being understanding about the volume of questions and comments we respond to; we appreciate all our players very much

1/27/2013 07:51 - NC Lottery

@ EARl2212 - What's your question? Each and every member of the Lucke Zone who makes at least one entry into a Lucke Rewards drawing has a chance to win a prize. These folks had amazing luck, but each of their entries had the same chance of winning as everybody else's.

1/27/2013 07:47 - NC Lottery

@ GOLF - Hey, congrats to you and your co-worker on winning some cash!

1/27/2013 07:46 - NC Lottery

@ RETTA - Anyone who plays the North Carolina Education Lottery has the same chance of winning, whether that person lives in N.C., S.C., or another state. Just ask Larkin Lee of Calhoun Falls, S.C. ... he matched all five numbers in the Dec. 30 Carolina Cash 5 drawing and won the $588,085 jackpot! I would like to know is there a chance for people in sc could win nc lottery, and second chance games. I play alot and I enjoy playing nc more than sc lottery. Thanks

1/26/2013 12:21 - James H.

It is luck. Just having fun playing. Bought a 20X two weeks ago and won $500. That was nice and I am from lenoir County. Best of LUCK to ALL!! A co-worker won $1000 on Max Green. Congrats to Claire and Star. Keep Playing folks and your luck will reward you!!

1/26/2013 10:36 - m. earl b.

so the same people are going to win three and four times. my question has not been answered about rules for double or more times for the same person. i guess you don't wont to answer that!

1/25/2013 09:34 - Chris S.

I know alot of chaos has ensued and you answered alot of questions but mine got lost in the mix. Can you take a look at it again and see if that can be done. You've already answered that it can by posting the unique 69,410 entries but it'd be nice to post how many there are on any given drawing so people can choose if they wish to enter their points.

1/25/2013 08:54 - clara m.

Just wondering.Thanks.

1/25/2013 07:40 - NC Lottery

@ DAVIDKEITH - Congrats on your $500 'Jumbo' win!

1/25/2013 05:54 - Roger K.

SORRY, just seen the post about CLAIRE and STAR!!! what luck!

1/25/2013 04:51 - David H.

See that wasn't so hard ,was it? That wasn't what I asked but it'll do. My odds are a long shot just like every game, I understand that. I'm in a better mood , bought a jumbo bucks ticket today..hit (jumbo for $50=$500.00). I'ts a good day!

1/25/2013 12:56 - NC Lottery

@ BADDCATT - 69,410 unique entries were made for the Jan. 16 drawing. How many specific users entered isnt reported to the communications team for us to share.

1/25/2013 11:11 - clara m.

Whats the most entries one person has entered? Per drawing. Not asking who it was.

1/25/2013 08:37 - NC Lottery

@ IEGENDWO - The communications team here at the lottery has been told to tell players with technical questions like yours to call this toll-free number: 1-800-201-0108

1/25/2013 08:34 - NC Lottery

@ EVERYONE - It will ALWAYS take lots of luck to win a lottery prize, by matching numbers, scratching numbers, or in a Lucke Rewards drawing. We wish everyone the very best of luck!

1/25/2013 08:33 - NC Lottery

@ EVERYONE - Your geography.. where you live or play.. has no impact on your chances of winning, positively or negatively. You see in the blog comments, we repeat this information on a daliy basis: It's pure luck. The lottery makes no decisions to "spread it around" ... areas are not targeted or denied winning tickets or entries. That would be unfair, not to mention illegal. Our job is to ensure everything is fair to everyone. Thats why Lucke Rewards drawings, and our daily Pick 3/Pick 4/Cash 5 drawings are all held under the supervision of auditors.

1/25/2013 08:33 - NC Lottery

@ EVERYONE - If you have even one entry in a Lucke Rewards drawing, you have a chance to win a prize. Imagine for a minute that you won $500 in a Lucke Rewards drawing... would you want to be disqualified from ever participating in a Lucke Rewards drawing ever again to have a chance to win? We're very happy for the winners of $500, but let's keep this in perspective, there are many larger lottery prizes out there that folks would like to play for a chance to win.

1/25/2013 08:17 - Dennis C.

I was expected this. It is not surprising. There is no telling how many points that entered. I can assure you it was a ton. Let them burn them up now, Im saving mine for down the road to use after everybody has burnt all their's up! Hang in there folks.

1/25/2013 08:13 - clara m.

I live down east, haven't heard of any winners on scratch or lucke zone draws. One in Wilmington.

1/25/2013 03:44 - Chris S.

I had asked NCEL in the past if there wasn't a way to see how many entries there were for a given drawing. Not the individual person entries but the entries as a whole. Kind of like the millionaire raffles, when you know how many there are when you buy your ticket. I think this would be simple enough to post. That way you can elect to keep your points for the next drawing if you feel there will be better odds.

1/25/2013 03:38 - Brad S.

It is near to impossible for this to happen. I too would like to know the number of entries from each! By the way if you would like a hard look at reality, take a look at all of your past tickets entered! The total amount of dollars spent can be quite shocking!

1/25/2013 01:47 - Diep thanh D.

Do people live in Jacksonville ever win anything?

1/24/2013 09:19 - m. earl b.

change the rules.... not fare. if you win once in the drawing give someone else a chance. if it were me that won twice then i would think about others that are putting there HARD Earned points into the game. what if they continue to win each wk.well no one else would wont to play.if the name comes up again then put it aside and pull another name. we tell the kids in school to give someone else a chance. after ALL this is the EDUCATIONAL LOTTERY!

1/24/2013 08:35 - Franz S.

you still have not clarified as to when a player enters like 10 or 100 entries at one time if that indeed means 10 or 100 entries for in your email verification of the entries gives only ONE and only ONE confirmation number. Please explain in detail. Thank you for clearing this up for me! Good Luck to All!

1/24/2013 08:20 - Yvonne P.

I have never every won

1/24/2013 08:04 - Patricia B.

Since they won only $500.00, do they have to go to Raleigh to claim the prize or can they pick it up at any lottery retailer? Good for them, but I'm just curious about the pickup procedure for this particular lucke rewards drawing.

1/24/2013 07:26 - clara m.

Does that seem odd?

1/24/2013 07:14 - Lydia M.

hope I win once lol

1/24/2013 06:44 - william j.

wow must be nice,,,cant wait to win my share!!!!!

1/24/2013 06:38 - David H.

been playing every week with a lot of chances entered, just how man entries(I'm sure you won't say) do those lucky souls enter to be so fortunate as to win twice, come on ncel spread it around.

1/24/2013 06:16 - Amy T.

thats bull all winners are in eastern to middle part of state. mountain people want to win just as bad and probably need it more. it just seems unfair seeing the winners down east all the time. we might get one out of hundreds. just unfair.
