Since Lucke-Rewards started on Oct. 1, several players asked if the rules allowed for members to win a prize in more than one drawing. The answer is yes. Just ask Claire Hinspeter of Garner and Starr Hill of Lexington. Each of them won $500 in the Jan. 9 and the Jan. 16 ‘Five for $500’ drawings.
While Hinspeter and Starr had extraordinary luck, the drawings were held according to standard procedures always in place. All Lucke-Rewards drawings are conducted using a random number generator, under the supervision of an auditor, according to specific security procedures.
A two-part review of the most recent drawing confirmed that standard procedures were used. An internal review verified that every step was followed to ensure the integrity of the drawing. The external review, conducted by the auditing firm Thomas & Gibbs, upheld the validity of the drawing process. With the winners confirmed, the lottery began the winner notification process.
The notification of winners in a Lucke-Rewards drawing begins only after all security and validation procedures are complete. After successful notification, winners must complete the claim process before any announcement is made.
This is something that many players have asked about, so here’s how the notification and claim process works. A winner receives a message from the lottery sent to the e-mail address associated with his or her Lucke-Zone account. This usually happens within 24 hours after the drawing. If the player does not respond by e-mail, the lottery attempts contact by telephone. When contact can’t be made by phone, the lottery sends a letter by certified mail.
The entire notification process can take many days. But even then, a winner won’t be announced until he or she completes the claim process. Sometimes, winners respond to the lottery’s notification and claim quickly. Other winners take more time to contact or need more time to claim.
We’re just as excited as players are to talk about who won in Lucke-Rewards drawings. So we hope this information helps show why the timing of those announcements can vary quite a bit.
