Charlotte woman ‘excited’ to win $10,000 Powerball prize

What would you do with a $10,000 lottery prize? Laura Hollowell of Charlotte said she plans to spend her winnings on home improvements. She matched four white balls and the Powerball back in the Nov. 28 drawing to win the prize.

Hollowell, who works in sales, bought her ticket at Uptown Sundries on North Tryon Street in Charlotte, letting the computer Quick Pick her numbers. When she realized she won, Hollowell said she was “excited to the max!”

The jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing is estimated at $70 million if taken as an annuity, or $44 million in cash. We’ll be watching with all our North Carolina players to find out if we have big winners in the drawing.

@ EARL2212 - Most states dont allow lottery winners to claim anonymously. When the North Carolina legislature passed the Lottery Act in 2005, that law considers lottery dollars public money that the public should know is going to benefit real education programs, and real winners. If you feel strongly about the issue you can write your elected representatives, the lottery just operates according to the law.

I wish the nc lottery would follow suit of awarding 5 $500 weekly second chance winners with 5 $5000 monthly winners. This opportunity would give more players that are down on their luch a much better chance to get back in the groove.

i hope North Carolina will follow such states as Maryland and a few others and not name the winners of 100k or more because there are to many crazy people in this world. i'm thinking about the man in Ill. that won $1mil. and some others in different states with similar stories. i think that people should have the option as to if they wont to go public. i hope we can get that option. i have stopped playing certain games because of this reason. i don't wont to know who they are i just wont to know where winning tickets were sold and which region has the highest percentile of winners. i do believe that people should have that option.

What would you do with a $10,000 lottery prize? Let's see, after taxes, Me and my wife would go on a vacation this summer to Key West FL, maybe a cruise too in August for her Birthday..then save the rest for a NC & Tenn Mountain vacation in the fall. Have any left, would buy all our folks Christmas gifts this time. Might just buy a few rolls of lottery tickets with some of it. Hope to win more,more, more.....
