Of the $19.1 million in prizes won this week, the two biggest individual winners were Carolina Cash 5 players.
Frank Garland, a maintenance technician from Morganton, plans to use the $369,833 jackpot he won in the Oct. 27 drawing to invest and save for his grandchildren’s college fund. “I was sitting at home looking at the computer,” said Garland. “I just checked the numbers over and over. I kept thinking, ‘I finally hit it. This feels good.’”
For two weeks, a Raleigh man walked around not knowing he had a Carolina Cash 5 ticket worth $216,640 in his wallet. Andre Bost, a machine operator for a pharmaceutical company, won in the Oct. 15 drawing. He stopped Tuesday in a local convenience store to check his tickets. “The clerk said I had to claim at the lottery office,” said Bost. “I had it with me the whole time and had no idea. It was so overwhelming. It was an unbelievable night. This whole thing just seems unreal.”
A pair of Cash 5 tickets split the $145,660 jackpot in Thursday's drawing. The lucky tickets – worth $72,830 each – were sold at the Food Lion on U.S. 17 South in Hampstead in Pender County and at the Dash In on North Arendell Avenue in Zebulon in Wake County.
Speaking of Cash 5, the next chance to win $50,000 in a Cash 5 Bonus Bucks drawing is coming up. The deadline for the Dec. 4 drawing is Nov. 20. Check out the Bonus Bucks page on our website for more information about how to get an entry slip.
Two more lottery players scratched their way to big prizes this week.
Jose Belardo Jr. of Fayetteville said the $150,000 prize he won playing the Bonus Jackpot game came as a complete surprise. “I was lying in bed on Saturday morning and I had the ticket I’d bought the night before,” he said. “When I scratched it, I thought I had won my money back. When I looked at it, I almost fell out of bed. I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy.”
Ann Beaver of Rockwell in Rowan County plans to pay off her mortgage after scratching off the $200,000 top prize on her 20X The Cash ticket. She told us she was stunned when she won. “I thought I was seeing things,” Beaver said. “I never thought it would be me that won big like this. I always figured that this was something that happened to other people.”
In all, players won more than $13.4 million on instant games this week. Draw game players won a total of $5.7 million.
