Cash 5 jackpot tops $1 million for 4th time in history

The estimated jackpot of $1,070,000 for Sunday’s Carolina Cash 5 drawing makes it the fourth largest in the game’s history.

It has been nearly two years since players of the game last had the chance to win a jackpot this big. Three lucky tickets split a $1,355,000 jackpot in the May 5 drawing – the largest in the game’s history. The current jackpot run started Feb. 21 and could eclipse that record.

If only one ticket matches all five numbers in Sunday’s drawing, the $1,070,000 jackpot would mark the largest Cash 5 jackpot ever awarded to a single winner. The current record is held by a Greenville player who won $856,998 in November of 2007.

geegoode,,, if it were that those in western NC were not winning it may be that they are NOT CHOOSING THE CORRECT WINNING NUMBERS! Players try to PREDICT what numbers will be drawn in the drawing games BEFORE they are drawn. SO any fault lies with the players choosing wrong numbers if they do not win. I know this because I have BEEN CHOOSING more losing numbers than winners for sometime. So 'HEY' I'm a witness that it happens that way. LOL. Also the Eastern part of the state may have more people living and playing so the odds of more winners being there could be from that,, but I think it is fairly proportional! @ GEEGOODE - Players in Western N.C. have the same exact chance of winning as players anywhere else. We've had winners from the big and small towns in Western N.C., like Asheville, Hendersonville, Mars Hill, Horseshoe, and Dana just to name a few. The lottery doesn't "send" winning tickets to anywhere in particular, its all a matter of random luck. Ask players from central and eastern N.C. if they think its easier to win the lottery where they live than where you live - it takes luck no matter where you live! Good luck!

This month I will be celebrating 50 years of life on this planet. My birthday is March --, 2013. I am looking forward to the opportunity of celebrating this wonderful time in my life. I want to thank NC Educational lottery to having such a great lottery. It has improved over the issues. The website is one of the best. I have gone to other lottery websites and I can say that NC Education Lottery is the best. So people be thankful that we have a lottery to help our public schools. I can say that before the lottery came to NC the public schools were run down and this has helped keep out property taxes low and provide better schools for all of the communities. I would love to win all three lotteries for the month of March 2013. That will be the greatest birthday present of all time. Those lotteries are: Cash 5, Mega Millions and Powerball. Why is it that there is hardly any winners in the western nc and ist always in the little small towns down east or in some town i have never heard before. Its sad because people spend a lot of money in the western towns of nc. I am glad for anyone who wins but put some winning tickets in this area.

@ JOSEPH - Your estimate was exactly right. But the final amount of Sunday's jackpot turned out to be $1,144,821... so the estimated state and federal taxes the lottery is required to withhold on a prize of that amount makes the after-tax total $778,478

Lord Have Mercy!!!! What a win that will be! Once it hit over the 200,000 mark, I have been playing more money on it to win. 20.00 dollars worth of tickets, only won me 2.00 dollars, the next night spent 10.00 dollars on tickets, won me only a dollar. The next few days, spent more and more only to win just a few bucks. Now tonight[SUNDAY] I have got to try and win this Jackpot. My numbers and quick picks numbers I have been playing.
