Lottery winners pay it forward

Recently, a group of 16 co-workers at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte won $10,000 playing Powerball. After celebrating their win, their thoughts turned to their friend and co-worker Sophia Tatsis.

Sophia is fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer and, as she is a part-time employee of the school, does not have health insurance (other than Medicare) to assist her in paying the medical bills.

The group decided to share their winnings with Sophia, and thanks to their help she was able to pay for her chemotherapy treatment in March.

But the good will didn’t stop there. After word spread around about the winners’ generosity, other people began to donate money to the cause.

@ TRIESH - It's actually not taking any longer than it often does. Before a winner is posted/announced, that winner has to respond to the lottery's notification attempts AND complete the claim process. We act within 48 hours of the drawing to notify winners, but it often takes days for winners to respond and claim. We understand why folks want to know, we share the info as soon as its available! :-)

What is taking so long for the $2500 weekly drawings to be posted and announced. The drawing for this week was suppose to be yesterday, and last weeks results still have not been posted. Can you please explain?

@ EARL2212 - It might have been you or someone else who requested this. At this time, the Lucke-Zone isn't set up to do this. We passed along the suggestion to the development group. It's possible that this could be added in the future.
