Cafeteria workers win $10,000 Powerball prize

A group of 16 co-workers in Charlotte got a healthy serving of good luck in the March 23 Powerball drawing. A ticket belonging to the team matched four white balls and the Powerball to win $10,000.

Four members collected the prize money on Tuesday at the lottery's regional claim center in Charlotte. There, the group representatives said they felt shocked when they realized they won.

The lucky ticket was purchased at the Market Express on Weddington-Monroe Road in Matthews. It was a Quick Pick, meaning the numbers were randomly selected by the computer.

Remember that all tickets for all draw games, whether they are winning or non-winning tickets, are eligible for Lucke-Rewards points here in the Lucke-Zone.

When you notify a winner does the "from" column read "North Carolina Educational Lottery" and the "subject" column "Lucke-Rewards Drawing"? I was just wondering if a winner would know they won before opening the mail.

save your tickets people and keep a running record of how much you spend within the year. i just had my taxes done and i got credit for my loses/after i filed the w2 from the lottery win that i had.it worked out great! i did not have to pay any taxes this year AT ALL! keep a record and only buy from the stores that will give you a receipt when you buy your ticket. KEEP A RECORD FOLKS! it pays.

A Wise Man on Walker Texas Ranger said " How can you win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket?" I hear that voice in my head everytime I have a chance to purchase a ticket. Rather one ticket or many, I have just as much luck as anyone else. ? You can’t live a positive life with a negative mind ?

@koduck63,, tell it!! Those who think the lottery picks where the winners are have no clue how it works. In psych class those who do that are trying to make it seem they have done nothing wrong and it is ALWAYS SOMEBODY ELSE'S fault for their shortcomings. Like a person being caught speeding,and they were speeding, doesn't blame their going to fast for getting a ticket, it is the cops fault because they "watch that road all the time". No matter where one lives or buys a ticket IF they "PREDICT" the wrong numbers they won't win! It's simple, yet simplicity is hard to accept by some who would rather live in drama, real or fabricated!

@ DEERMAN - For a player who wins a prize in a Lucke-Rewards drawing, the lottery first notifies the winner by e-mail, at the address associated with his or her Lucke-Zone account. We always tell winners they're invited to call us here at HQ to confirm that it's not some kind of scam! :-)

On a different note, every time I'm on the main Lucke-Rewards page and attempt to enter a Draw Game Ticket or switch to the drawings tab or any other tab located there, the error: (Entry not recognized. Please check the numbers and try again.), comes up. I'm thinking this is just a software flaw but getting concerned that it's going to lock me out at some point with too many errors. Can you look into this and I'd be happy to call tech. support if that's whats needed. I'm sure I'm not the only one this is happening to.

@ MAYBABY - If that was true, wouldn't everyone just move to Charlotte or Raleigh and win the lottery? The fact is - and you can check with a statistics professor at a university if you don't want to take our word for it - nobody has any better chance of winning the lottery than anybody else. Ask other players here in the Lucke-Zone who live in a big city. We wish you and all our players good luck - that's what it takes to win, nothing else! :-)

If you live in the right county, Charlotte, Raleigh in those areas you are almost guarenteed to win if you play. So this comes to no surprise to me. The lottery in North carolina makes no secret that somebody in those ares are going to win, and win big. The proof is in the pudding.

@ FARMERSDAUGHTER - That's not a silly question! We've been asked many times. As far as the lottery is concerned, once you've successfully entered a ticket here in the Lucke-Zone, you don't need to keep the physical ticket. :-)

The 16 of them bought 16 tickets, for $2 each, for the big drawing held that night. The annuity value of the jackpot was estimated at $338.3 million :-)

That'cool. congrats. always glad to see a group win. I'm sure they have already been told. If they would have just thrown in another person b4 they claimed the prize they would have more in their pockets. 625 ea minus taxes= 425. with 17 they would have had 588 ea w/no taxes.
