Nine tickets win big in weekend jackpot drawings

It was a big weekend for players of jackpot games as two big jackpot runs came to a close. The Mega Millions jackpot was split by tickets sold in New Jersey and Virginia, while the record Powerball jackpot was won by a ticket sold in Florida.

Here in North Carolina, one Mega Millions ticket and eight Powerball tickets won big prizes. A ticket worth $10,000 in Friday's Mega Millions drawing was sold at El Paisa Latin Foods on Wellons Street in Four Oaks (Johnston County).

A $40,000-winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Pop Shoppe on Hickswood Road in High Point (Guilford County). Seven more Powerball tickets sold across the state won $10,000 prizes. They were sold at the following locations:

Samirs #2 on Sugar Hill Road in Marion (McDowell County)
Bostian Heights Grocery on N.C. 152 East in China Grove (Rowan County)
Wilco #1877 on U.S. 17 North in Holly Ridge (Onslow County)
Food Lion on South Memorial Drive in Greenville (Pitt County)
Han-Dee Hugo on Benson Road in Garner (Wake County)
Bull Market #12 on Avondale Drive in Durham (Durham County)
Earp's Express #3 on Brighton Park Road in Charlotte (Mecklenburg County)

We didn't have jackpot luck this weekend, but we are looking forward to meeting the winners of these big prizes, and thank everyone for joining us on this exciting ride.

@ EARL2212 - Look at it this way. If the overall odds of winning a game are 1 in 4, that means that 75% of tickets are non-winning tickets. It isn't that you or anybody else is unlucky, its that it takes a lot of luck to win a prize playing the lottery.

i have bought scratch off tickets all over my city and have come up empty each time.HOW MANY NON-WINNING tickets do you make. I know that i have bought over half of them. it is may and i have already spent more then 1.5k on scratch-off tickets with no luck. the lottery in this state smells BAD!

@ BUN - Just click on the "LUCKE-REWARDS" tab at the top of the screen. When you successfully enter a ticket there, you will automatically get your Lucke-Rewards points (and, if the game has a game-specific second-chance drawing associated with it, you'll automatically get an entry into that, too). To see the Lucke-Rewards drawings you can enter using the points you've built up, click on the "DRAWINGS" sub-category within Lucke-Rewards.

remember people buy scratch-off tickets to win instantly! they do not but scratch-off tickets with second chance drawing prizes in mind thank you very much!!!!

@ PLAYER (S62) - As mentioned at the very beginning of this blog, there was one jackpot-winning ticket for Saturday's drawing, and it was sold in Florida. Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the US Virgin Islands. The fact that so many folks are playing for a chance to win is what makes it possible for the jackpot to reach such a large amount. The jackpot game played only in our state is Carolina Cash 5. The jackpots aren't as big, but the odds of winning are better, and North Carolina always wins! :-D

@ PLAYER (D28734) - McDowell County, where one of the $10,000-winning tickets was sold, is in Western North Carolina. When you made this comment before, we pointed out to you that chances are 90%+ of North Carolinians, lottery players, and lottery retailers are east of you. That doesn't mean those areas have a "better" chance of winning, it simply means there are more people east of you taking a chance to win. Nobody has an advantage or disadvantage when it comes to playing the lottery - all a matter of luck!

I USED TO WIN SMALL AMOUNTS (ENOUGH TO STAY ABOUT EVEN) UNTIL THEY STARTED THIS 2ND CHANCE BS, HAVEN'T WON SINCE. NOBODY, ESPECIALLY THE LOTTERY, GIVES YOU SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. IT WAS MORE FUN WHEN THE WINNER GOT LESS THAN $50 MILLION. ANYONE THAT CAN'T RETIRE ON THAT IS AN IDIOT!

You go out there wasting tons of money on powerball tickets knowing the chances of wining are slim to none. There's millions of people in the us who bought tons of tickets then you want to get mad because you lost and your broke. Well stop wasting the money. I don't play none of that crap only scratch off tickets the other mess is a waste of money time and stress don't need it

And the Western part of the State a loser again, We what the same chance as ALL of the eastern side of the State, and don`t say it is,,come and look at all the places you can buy tickets at and ask for one of the new ones that came out,,then go back and start in Asheville and go east,,,the tickets will get to are side when the games have been playing for 2 to 3 weeks or longer. try it don`t take my word for it,,look at all the winners and were there from,,

Congrats to the FLA winner! my sister lives in FLA, but had no matching numbers. I had no matching numbers either. I though I would step out of my bounds and buy 30.00 dollars worth of tickets for this draw. 20.00 dollars of quick picks and 10.00 dollars of my picks from my pill bottle, that I shook out my numbers from. Had a few numbers, all on different lines, but that was it. Just waiting on Wednesday now, 40 million will be ok with me!!!
