Mike Beach of Morganton and George McCall of Fayetteville now know how it feels to get the VIP treatment at a NASCAR race. This year, a Lucke-Rewards online contest sent the two lucky winners to the NCEL 200 truck race in Concord with the opportunity to be a part of the action. McCall and Beach were chosen as the truck race’s honorary starter and grand marshal.
On Friday, May 17 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the two contest winners greeted the drivers on-stage as they were announced, including the eventual and third-time winner Kyle Busch.
Shortly after driver introductions and the singing of the national anthem, all eyes turned to McCall as he spoke the most famous words in racing: “Drivers, start your engines!”
“It felt great,” McCall said. “It’s totally unbelievable. I can’t put it in words. It’s something you have to experience.”
Meanwhile, Beach climbed the Start/Finish Flag Tower and took his spot overlooking the crowd of trucks as they prepared for the 201-mile, 134-lap race.
“I got to wave the green flag,” said Beach. “It was wonderful. A feeling like I’ve never felt before. It felt like a jet coming by.”
Both winners took a tour of the infield, including the garage and pit areas. They were also recognized during the pre-race driver’s meeting and relaxed in a luxury RV prior to the start of the race.
As the race commenced, Beach and McCall watched the action from an infield pit suite and a private suite above the grandstands, which was fully catered with dinner, snacks and beverages.
“It’s a totally different experience when you come to the track,” McCall said. “I just wish all the other people playing the lottery’s second-chance drawings could experience what I have experienced today.”
After the checkered flag waved, Beach and McCall posed for photographs with Kyle Busch on Victory Lane.
“I feel like I have won the lottery,” McCall said as the event drew to a close. “I knew this was going to be a nice time, but I had no idea it was going to be this nice.”
Both winners received VISA gift cards, hotel accommodations on the night of the NCEL 200 and a ticket package to the NCEL 200 Camping World Truck Series race, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star race, NASCAR Nationwide Series History 300 race and the Sprint Cup Series Coca Cola 600 race.
