NC tickets win big as ‘Power’ and ‘Mega’ jackpots grow

With no ‘perfect ticket’ for either of the multistate jackpot drawings this weekend, the annuity estimates surged again. Mega Millions players have the chance to win $139 million ($104.8 million cash) Tuesday night. In Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, $222 million ($144.5 million cash) is up for grabs.

Four tickets sold across North Carolina, however, did win big prizes in the drawings – including three that matched four white balls and the Power Ball Saturday night. We’ll start at the coast in Pender County, where Donald Tucker of Rocky Point Power Played to win $40,000. At the lottery’s Wilmington claim center on Monday morning, Tucker said he was excited and overwhelmed to win and plans to use his winnings to pay off his mortgage. He purchased the ticket at WilcoHess #396 on U.S. 177 South in Rocky Point. A second Powerball ticket worth $40,000 in Saturday’s drawing was sold in Winston-Salem. That ticket, which has yet to be claimed, was purchased at the Wilco #115 on University Parkway.

The third Powerball ticket was not Power Played, making it worth $10,000. It was sold at the Harris Teeter on North Cove Road in Cornelius in Mecklenburg County. Another ticket to win $10,000 matched four white balls and the Mega Ball in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing. The lucky player bought it at Sam’s Mini Mart on West Green Drive in High Point.

Finally, a note about our state’s jackpot game, Carolina Cash 5: In Rutherford County, a ticket sold in the small mountain town of Bostic hit the jackpot for $188,023 on Saturday night. That ticket was sold at the Corner Store on Bostic Sunshine Highway.

i dont know where NCKID is getting their info, but but the western part of the state is where all the BIG money has been won!!! it is also where the lucke-rewards started back in september, when we (eastern) didnt get it till FEBRUARY!!! Have continuously asked why, but get no response. completely understand lottery is a game of chance, JUST WANT IT TO BE A FAIR CHANCE!!!!! since they wont answer my questions, thought about having the news folks start digging in it for answers.

My husband plays lottery and I feel like its the biggest waste of money 20 dollars here and there in scratch off to win maybe a free ticket or 5 dollars. Then enter all these these tickets in 2 and chance building hopes to lose again. When that money could of went towards bills

there are many ups and downs in life, with more downs playing lottery. however that dream or reality is out there and many of us win its just that some win larger amounts that make the difference. if we win big we should share as many people are having a ruff ride money wise.

@ BEACHTRIPP - Unlike with C5/MM/PB tickets, P3/P4 tickets can be cancelled within 15 minutes of purchase, or in the time remaining before the draw break. Because of that feature of P3/P4 tickets, the computer system will not allow them to be entered into the Lucke-Zone until the next day. Why? Because otherwise a player could potentially enter a P3/P4 ticket for Lucke-Rewards points, and then take it back to the retailer and have it cancelled.

@ LASTROGUE - More than likely, the issue is that you're entering the letter "O" when it should be the number "0" ... the letter "O" is never used in the Lucke-Rewards code. Try that, and if it still doesn't work for you, please give our player customer service team a call: 877-962-7529

Occasionally, when I go to enter a "loser", the entry will be (Unrecognized numbers, please check ticket). well at first I got excited thinking it was a cash winner, but no.....I took one of the tickets to a automated dispenser to check it, and it also said unrecognized barcode...whats up with this?

Thanks,Lucky Zone,I found the correct page yesterday.Out of the two tickets my husband carried to Sheetz one was actually a $12.00 winner but the clerk said "no winner"and trashed the ticket.I have never won this much so I was really disappointed.Its bad when you cannot trust the stores to be truthful but thanks bunches for the help.

@ PLAYER (SV) - Tickets for Pick 3 and Pick 4 cannot be entered for reward points until the day after they were purchased. This is because of the ability to “cancel” your ticket for each of those games. Remember that all tickets for draw games, winning and non-winning, are eligible for Lucke-Rewards points. Precisely because when the tickets are printed, nobody knows if they will win a prize or not.

On the 2nd chance wins? Im curious to know why is the numbers of the Pick3 or pick4,they are not recognizable until the next day? I just purchased several Mega & Powerball and Cash5 that has not even drawn yet, but it allows me to enter my ticket numbers for a reward and accepts them, My question is how is that? and It also let know B4 the drawing date I have a non-winning tickets or they are already pre-selected the winners??????

Listen folks - The lotto isn't guaranteed. Just play merrily and hope to win. You do realize that the draw games like PB and MM are in 48 states????!??!??!??!? It's not like these games are local to NC only. Listen - You have to be in it to win it. No one can predict the time or place; Just put your tickets in and let the numbers roll. need to have winners in Burlington including scratch tickets/ I've paleayed for 4 years and the most I've won is $25 dollars or less and its not because I don't play or scratch a lot of tickets because I do. All I can say once a person hits be it scratch off or mega, give back. Take care of your "needs". Many of us "want" a lot of things in life. Use the money for betterment of all concerned. Get back to the basics of life. I am a disabled vet and I play when I can afford it but there is no pie in the sky. Get real. To person who commented,"i have been playing the lottery for a long time it's time for me to win big......it's my time", what comes around goes around. Stay positive and keep it moving. Holler.

The good news is, from the game page for Powerball, Mega Millions or Cash 5 on our website... all you have to do is click on the little blue arrows on the right-hand side of any of the latest drawing numbers, and it will take you to another screen that explains the payout at each level.

The lottery has begun the notification process of those winners... the name of a winner can only be announced after he or she completes the claim process. For prizes of $600+, that process must be completed at one of the lottery's regional offices. This notification/claim process is why announcement of winners can sometimes take many days.

More players (about 3 out of 4) Quick Pick their numbers. About 3 out of 4 winners are Quick Picks. Which means there's no advantage or disadvantage to Quick Pick vs. choosing your own #'s... good luck to you!

@ NCKID - What do you define as the "eastern part" of the state? If you live in the mountains, it's very possible that 90+ percent of North Carolina residents and lottery retailers are east of where you are. That doesn't mean those folks or those areas have a "better" chance of winning, nobody does... (P.S. did you see that the Cash 5 jackpot ticket mentioned in this very Lucke-Zone blog was sold in a tiny town in Rutherford County?)

I didn't expect anyone would respond, as in a site administrator or otherwise .However, I too respect all views, and people for that matter.I hate to hear of death as it is truly unkind - (to the person who posted after me) I am sorry for that loss, for your friend, for the unexpected. I often hear it is darkest before the dawn maybe you will be lucky in a way that can help ease this time for your friend. Here is to luck in the next drawing. If you wanted to "Sum up" your ticket you could have cancelled the ticket and resumitted your #'s. That's what I have done.

No,not it.There was a screen that would tell winners if they got 2 numbers out of 5 correct they would win $1.00.(Megapliers and powerplays would be more)3 out of 5 correct would be $3.00.I did what you said above and it didn't work.

Question:There was a screen you could go to and see if you won anything on Power balls,Mega Million,Cash 5.Not the big winners but like 2 of 5 correct #'s or 3 of 5,4 of 5 etc.I cannot find the screen any longer.I had 2 Mega Million tickets with 2 correct #'s on each ticket.I carried them to the Sheetz but they said they were useless.I like to be able to check my own tickets before I go to cash them in.HOW?

I'm getting tired of reading the same ole, same ole stuff on here! PEOPLE GET REAL!! I don't win either, but I don't complain about it! It's a game of luck, either you have it or you don't.I walked in a store yesterday and had a dollar left over for change, bought the dollar ticket 500 a week for life, scratched and won 10.00 dollars.That was luck, My friends wife was killed on 5-3-13. wrong place at the wrong time, or was it her fate? A guy ran a stop sign and hit them on the passenger side of the car, Killed her instantly.They are having her cremated. You might say what does this have to do with winning the lottery. Each day you all wake up, you don't know if you are going to win the lottery today or you don't know if you will be dead by the end of the day! i have to laugh that the lord would will that.. not sure that is how the bible works. It does say denounce your riches and follow me. I would pass it all around to my family and close friends. that is for sure. no one deserves it more than my parents and family. they are great people who always give to others. of course i too would love to finish my degree and not have to worry about paying this or that and be able to adopt and/or foster children one day. I guess we all have our reasons, I just hope that there is good will in the hearts of those who do/have/will win. that some good comes from the money that is won. best wishes to all.
