Gastonia store sells $611,447 Cash 5 jackpot ticket

Someone who played Carolina Cash 5 in Gastonia hit the jackpot last night. A single ticket, sold at the Mountain Stop on Archie Whitesides Road, beat odds of 1 in 575,757 to win the $611,447 jackpot. The winning numbers for the drawing are 4-11-25-35-38.

“It means a lot to us that one of our customers hit that money and it will make them happy,” said Nader Ibrahim, the store manager. “We don't know who won, but congratulations to them.”

Cash 5 drawings are held every night, with a starting jackpot of $50,000. When no ticket matches all five numbers, the jackpot rolls to a larger amount. Before being hit last night, the jackpot rolled eight times since the last time it was won on June 4.

Only one Cash 5 jackpot this year has been larger: The $1.07 million won in the March 3 drawing. The player that bought that ticket, Homer Buffaloe of Zebulon, has the distinction of collecting the largest Cash 5 jackpot ever awarded to a single winner.

As always, winners have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. We look forward to meeting last night's jackpot winner here at lottery headquarters.

@ MOWALLJR - We understand that we will always be asked the same questions because players are eager to win a prize playing the lottery. As you point out, in order to have a chance to win a big prize, all lotteries work the same way... there have to be many non-winning tickets in order for that to be possible. So good luck to everyone!

@ PLAYER (R7) - How many entries a Lucke-Zone member makes into a drawing is up to him or her if they want to share that with anybody else. Public information about lottery wins is limited to winner's name, hometown, game played & amount won.

When a winner is chosen for the winning Wednesday's why don't NCL post the number of entry points as well as the winners name. We all pride ourselves on being transparent. Looking forward to your response.

NCEL,, Some of the things you have to reply to,,, You would think folks who play the lottery would have a better concept of the magnitude of the numbers and the odds instead of being like the Beverly Hillbillies who had no idea how much a 'mill e on" (million) is. And on the other thought that NCEL controls where the "winners" will be sold. As many times as it has been said and STILL someone else will still claim NCEL is in a sense keeping them from winning!

@ PLAYER (RC) - We have posted and responded to every comment you've ever posted. Our guess is that you are not returning back to the blog entry where you leave the comment to see our response, which is always the same, because the facts never change: Players in Hillsborough and Orange County have no better or worse chance of winning the lottery than folks playing anywhere else. Just ask any other player here in the Lucke-Zone. And we wish you good luck if you choose to play games of chance!

@ PLAYER (MB65) - While we have posted your comment, and you're welcome to be critical of the N.C. Education Lottery if you wish, the Lucke-Zone blog is not a place for political debate. There are lots of other places on the internet for that! To answer your question, the North Carolina General Assembly, elected by the voters of North Carolina, passed the Lottery Act, which created the legal basis for the N.C. Education Lottery. And that's why we're here talking to you now!

@ PLAYER (MB65) - Your comment hasn't been censored, it just hasn't been posted yet. Our moderation team has to approve all comments before they're posted so that we have a chance to censor vulgar or rude comments, and so that we have a chance to respond to any comments that need a response. No, there is no rule that you have to be positive... just read the variety of comments we post here in the Lucke-Zone!

I know that the comment I made... that you are not posting, is in fact a negative comment. It was just food for thought and an honest assessment of an idea. I am surprised that it has not been posted. Can you give an explanation as to why? Does everything we say on this forum have to be Polly Anna and positive?

Good for them, I hope they use it well... selfishly, which in my opinion is really what we all do, even if it means giving it to charity. Because selfishness is valueing what YOU value! No one should dictate to you how you should spend your money, including the Government. Isn't it ironic how they hold the monopoly on gambeling and liquor? We are so stupid, including me for even playing. Wow we are such slaves to the state! Can you imagin the winnings if we could gamble freely without the State involvement. Why do they hold the rights to this?
