For the second time this year, players of Carolina Cash 5 are watching the jackpot roll into record territory. The estimated $925,000 jackpot for Monday’s drawing is the fifth-largest in the game’s history.
Less than four months ago, a farmer from Zebulon won the largest Cash 5 jackpot ever awarded to a single winner. Homer Buffaloe had the only ticket to match all five numbers in the March 3 drawing, making him the sole claimant of the $1,144,821 jackpot.
The largest Cash 5 jackpot in the game’s history – $1,346,883 – was split by three lucky tickets in the May 5, 2011 drawing. The current jackpot run started June 14 and could soon eclipse that record. The top five jackpots in the game’s history are:
- $1,346,883 - May 5, 2011
- $1,144,821 - March 3, 2013
- $1,172,604 - March 1, 2010
- $1,075,000 - May 4, 2011 (rolled)
- $925,000 - June 24, 2013
Similar to the multistate draw games Powerball and Mega Millions, the Carolina Cash 5 jackpot can be won or grows larger in every drawing. The jackpot is won when one or more tickets match all five winning numbers. Drawings are held at 11:22 p.m. each night.
