Two lucky tickets split $954,550 Cash 5 jackpot

A pair of tickets won nearly half a million dollars each in Monday's Carolina Cash 5 drawing. The tickets, worth $477,275 apiece, beat odds of 1 in 575,757 to win their half of the $954,550 jackpot.

The winners have come forward to collect their shares of the jackpot. Karen Horton of Salibsury purchased her winning ticket at Wilco #363 on West Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury. The other winner, Halifax County resident Becky Richardson of Hollister, purchased her winning ticket at the New Dixie Mart on Dortches Boulevard in Rocky Mount.

The winning numbers drawn were 1-7-17-35-37. Including non-jackpot winnings, Cash 5 players won more than $1.1 million in the drawing. Winners have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.

I know how Kathy G feels, I bought 10 Big Ol Bucks and got $2 out of spending $20, now that was a bummer. Quick picks I have gotten in the past 2 weeks come out in other states. They play my numbers but not NC, they play some of the same old numbers over and over. I would just to win all my money I have put into this losing lottery and quit. Years down the drain. Theirs nothing out their but a few wining tickets and the rest is junk. I have been watching other states and how often they have repeats and none of them is as bad as NC, they keep the repeats going. I don't think its fair for players have to put so much in it and hardly winning anything. Second chance drawing, so many entries and the odds are just as bad. I have decided that lottery is a money making buisness.

@ KATHYG - The odds of winning are set accurately for the entire printing run of the game. Winning and non-winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire game, which means its entirely possible for there to be many non-winning or winning tickets in a row. Sorry to hear you didn't have better luck on those particular tickets.

@ GRANDBABY - Once you've entered a non-winning instant or draw game ticket for Lucke-Rewards points, you do not need to keep the physical ticket. If you enter a winning draw game ticket for Lucke-Rewards points, obviously you'll want to hang on to that so you can claim your prize! :-)

I meant on the lottery page where instant winners are posted, the dates go from June 20, 2013 to June 24, 2013. There are no winners for June 21, 2013. I would guess just an entry problem??

Best odds are with those who live in the Piedmont. Winners from the Mountains or Coastal Plain are the rarest. Reason being the great majority of the population is in the Piedmont. So if you live outside the Piedmont and win, consider yourself SUPER LUCKY!
