Three lucky players cashed in six-figure prizes on scratch-off games this week, pushing the instant prize total to more than $13.9 million.

Cabarrus County resident Margaret Cleveland of Concord is the first player to win a $100,000 top prize playing the Black Onyx 7’s game. She said the lucky ticket sat in a drawer untouched for over two weeks before she decided to take it out and scratch it. Four more top prizes are still unclaimed in the game, which started on June 18.

Another $100,000 win this week belongs to Buncombe County resident Robert Rose Sr. of Candler. He won on a Diamond 7’s ticket. With his win, three more top prizes of $100,000 remain in that game.

But by far the biggest scratch-off prize collected this week is the $750,000 Jumbo Bucks prize won by Rowan County resident Bruce Kluttz of Cleveland, NC. He purchased his lucky ticket at the County Line Grocery on Campground Road in Statesville.

Several Carolina Cash 5 players won or claimed big prizes this week. The winner of Thursday’s $260,423 jackpot, who has yet to come forward, purchased the winning ticket at the Fill Good on U.S. 74 West in Monroe in Union County. The $65,440 Cash 5 jackpot won in the July 5 drawing also has yet to be claimed. That winning ticket was sold at the Market Express on Weddington-Monroe Road in Matthews.

Yolanda Brown of Greensboro collected her $25,000 share of the jackpot she won in the March 15 drawing. Ricky Cannon of Concord won the $74,975 jackpot in the July 3 drawing.

A trio of $10,000 prizes were won in recent Powerball and Mega Millions drawings. Abraham Scott of Southport won in the July 5 Mega Millions drawing and Terry Jacob of Sophia won in the July 6 Powerball drawing. Another $10,000-winning Powerball ticket for that drawing, sold at the Kangaroo Express on Ashdale Court in Kannapolis, has yet to be claimed.

Including Pick 3 and Pick 4 prizes, draw game players won more than $3.5 million this week.

Ten more players claimed big scratch-off prizes, including two $50,000 wins. Faith Jefferies of Burlington won playing Bingo Mania and Raymond Patterson of Randleman won playing Cash Spectacular. It was a $4,000,000 Gold Bullion ticket that made Edwards Jenkins of Goldsboro a $20,000 instant winner.

This week’s $10,000 instant winners are:

  • Robert Bray of Asheboro, who won playing $5,000 a Week for Life!
  • Jessica Ellington of Butner, who won playing $5,000 a Week for Life!
  • Telesforo Garcia of China Grove, who won playing Ruby Red 7’s
  • Dawn Herzberg of Leland, who won playing $5,000 a Week for Life!
  • Richard Myers of Suffolk, Va., who won playing Mega Money Multiplier
  • Cesar Palacios of Pittsboro, who won playing Black Onyx 7’s
  • Teya Robinson of Charlotte, who won $10,000 playing Jumbo Bucks

In all, since July 4, players statewide won more than $17.4 million in total prizes. Thanks to everyone for playing and taking time to read the blog. Have a fun and safe weekend and see you next time here in the Lucke-Zone.

@ PLAYER (JMPME81) - Sometimes station programming affects whether or not the evening drawings are broadcast, but it has no effect on the drawing itself.

@ GLORY - We've had lucky winners in your area. You can copy & paste this link into your browser for more info: http://bit.ly/13b9Woo

@ PLAYER (JMPME81) - We have posted every comment you've submitted for posting on the Lucke-Zone blog. We are 100% clear that you don't believe the information we have taken time to share in our responses, which leads to the question: Why do you ask? The lottery's practices are reviewed and audited all the time. If you want to play games of chance for a chance to win, our games will be available to you, and we will wish you luck.

7/24/2013 11:25 - josh p.

how come you wont put my comments up....when you stop selling tickets at 11 pm, buy 11:10 your computer system can tell what number would be best for the state and which one would be worse. and what every other number would be worth to the state. and you think i trust that?

7/24/2013 10:41 - sarah j.

I repeat, Is there any big winners in the southport,nc area, just wondering? I never see any posted.

7/24/2013 07:13 - Roger K.

All u naysayers about our lottery!! Y'all should quit playing if all you are going to do is complain! Hey don't worry about what happens to the money! You have a percentage of loser to be able to pay the winners! I have a bucket full of losing tickets! I have lost a bunch too! I don't know how much I have lost, but is half full. It was my WILL to play in hopes of winning a jackpot. But when I do finally win, It will take care of all I have lost!! It's y'all's choice to play, but the lottery here is doing all they can to help you all understand this GAME OF LUCK!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

7/24/2013 06:16 - josh p.

its rigged. the other night both witn and wral failed to show the drawings at 11:22. i called and asked and ncel said they knew nothing of it...they know before drawing which number would benifit the state the most.

7/23/2013 09:16 - NC Lottery

@ FRANCESMCOLEY - We've had many winners from Rocky Mount area. You can copy & paste this link into your browser for more info: http://bit.ly/17C7jAt ... To answer your other question, wins of $1000+ are listed on our website with winner's name, home town, game played & amout won; this is public information by law. You wouldnt be req'd to have your photo taken or do news interviews. But we'd congratulate you just the same!

7/23/2013 08:18 - Frances C.

1 is there any winning ticket in rocky mountnc...2 if i ever win big do i have to put my name all over the news and internet....

7/23/2013 04:45 - NC Lottery

@ GARRY - Sorry to disappoint you, but we don't censor comments just because they make outrageous accusations about the lottery. We will, however, not post comments that use hostile or derogatory language. So please avoid that if you decide to comment on the Lucke-Zone blog.

7/23/2013 03:16 - garry g.

I love this I posted a statement calling them out its not posted well the feds always can prove it was sent for posting so nclc go ahead make my days communists

7/23/2013 03:08 - garry g.

the n c lottery is run by a bunch of crooks the same numbers keep coming up and its because they are weighting the balls they take in more than 4 times the money they report and is I knew who to contact to run a federal investigation I would it is run like the florida lottery was 10 years or so ago and then they got caught ran to Tennessee and got caught no telling how much money they have misdirected or flat out stolen but I bet it was a lot don't even talk about state auditors they are in on it bring in the feds and watch what happens and bring them in unplanned unannounced and watch em run

7/23/2013 01:51 - Michael R.

Okay I see.... Players will you get a real username so all can see you. lol

7/23/2013 11:23 - NC Lottery

@ DEEP1 - When players register for their Lucke-Zone account, they get to choose a username, and a separate screenname. If they leave the screenname set to the default "PLAYER" - then that's what shows up when they comment on the blog.

7/23/2013 10:31 - Michael R.

Why just the name " Player" is showing up? So confusing. Got me thinking it's the same person posting over and over again.

7/23/2013 10:24 - NC Lottery

@ SHERRY - Sure, just click on the "ACCOUNT" link at the very top-right of the Lucke-Zone. You can edit/update your contact information there :-)

7/23/2013 10:19 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (JMPME81) - With all state lotteries and any other form of gaming, players know up front that its more likely that a ticket will not win a prize than that it will win a prize. This basic concept is what makes it possible for the lottery to award enormous prizes and do what it was legally created to do: Responsibly raise money for education. If you or anybody else would rather not play lottery games, we respect that choice.

7/23/2013 06:47 - sherry s.

could you please tell me how to change your e-mail address, address and phone number on the second chance drawings

7/23/2013 05:10 - josh p.

so when you say over 2.9 billion raised for education you outta also say just how much has been lost overall by residents of this state. think about this if i started running games like yall do, you'd have me put in jail

7/22/2013 06:05 - christopher s.

? what second game has no one from Ral Char won.

7/22/2013 05:28 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (JMPME81) - Think about this for a second: We repeated to you several times over the past few days that the lottery pays out 60% of what is spent on lottery tickets in prizes, and 29% benefits education. That means players win more than twice as much as the lottery earns for education. This is the Lucke-Zone lottery players' club blog. We have done our best to lay everything out for you. If you want to spend more time on math topics, this probably isn't the best place for that conversation.

7/22/2013 05:03 - josh p.

Lol you know the answer but wont say. i bet if winners won 175 million, loser lost double that. and dont even answer if your going to say anything about a %.

7/22/2013 10:47 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (DARIUS1) - For Lucke-Rewards drawings, if a winner does not respond to the lottery's notification efforts within 30 days of our first e-mail attempt, then the lottery will proceed with choosing another winner at random, and starting a new notification process. (If a winner doesn't respond to e-mail notification, we then attempt to reach by telephone and, if winner is still unresponsive, we send certified mail).

7/21/2013 09:38 - Kim A.

question for these lucke zone drawings what happens if a person never claim there prize? do you pick another person or nobody wins that drawing?

7/21/2013 05:24 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (JMPME81) - What % goes where is the answer to your question. If we pay out 60% in prizes, you can easily figure out the approximate sales figure that generated a particular prize total. Just divide the prize total by .6 and that number is the approximate sales total that generated the prize total. We give you all the percentages so you have the context you need to understand where all the money goes, including prizes. An exact sales total for a particular time frame is something that our finance department would have to generate for you (the communications team answers blog questions). So you are welcome to visit the contact page on our website and make a records request. One last note, we answer off-topic questions on the Lucke-Zone blog in an effort to provide good customer service, but we would appreciate it if you would be courteous when we're having a back and forth dialogue.

7/21/2013 04:57 - josh p.

But you still haven't answered my question. i dont care about what % goes where i wanna know since july 4 how much have nc residents lost playing your games. bet you dont wanna answer that ya. for example if winnes won 175 million, did losers lose 275 million, 500 million. whats the answer. and quit beating around the bush and give me a specific number

7/21/2013 11:17 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (JMPME81) - We responded to this same question when you asked it on the other blog entry. But we are glad to share the info with you again: For every $1 a player spends on a lottery ticket, about 60% is paid back to players in prizes, about 29% benefits education, 7% is paid to retailers for selling tickets, and the remaining 4% pays for things like tickets, the computer network that connects the 6,800+ stores statewide, advertising, and operational costs. This is all a matter of public record and we are glad for you and everyone to know the facts about how the lottery works.

7/21/2013 07:26 - josh p.

Ok..players won 17.4 in total since july 4 or whatever the exact number is. So how much in total did others lose? In other words how much has ncel profited in that same time?

7/20/2013 01:03 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (BLACKCOP73) - #2 Anytime you buy a scratch-off lottery ticket, you've always got the same chance of buying one that has the chance to win a top prize on it as any other player does. But there has never been a guarantee made that a top prize will be printed on each and every ticket. The odds of winning a prize including break-even prizes are advertised at the start of the game, and those odds vary up & down throughout the life of the game as folks scratch and win prizes. If you aren't doing it already, you can check out all the prizes remaining for any scratch-off game on our website.

7/20/2013 01:01 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (BLACKCOP73) - #1 Many state lottery across the country have what is called a "liability limit" for daily draw games. The lottery has a legal obligation to limit the number of wagers players can make on any one particular number, because we have to be able to pay out the many millions of dollars in prizes that would be won if those numbers hit. If you want to play popular combinations like the ones you mentioned, just buy an advance play ticket and you'll be good to go.

7/19/2013 10:53 - Betty K.

All I can say is I'm still waiting for my Luck ship to come in....

7/19/2013 07:56 - Treven F.

Please explain to me these 2 questions? 1) Why do the NCEL put a cap off (lock out) certain numbers? (e.g. Pick3 555 or Pick4 -1111? In my opinion, the NCEL is being unfair to players who go into a store and fill out a play slip with any number combination and be told by the clerk, that certain set of numbers is LOCKED OUT!! 2) Why do the NCEL on scratch tickets do not give the respective player a chance to win the TOP PRIZE amount? For example, I bought a scratch off (2,5, 10 and20 dollars) and did not see any TOP PRIZE chances to win. I will be eagerly awaiting your response. Thanks in advance!

7/18/2013 01:53 - NC Lottery

@ AWARDSGALLERY - Same thing happened with how the Goldsboro winner info was posted as with the other player - he won in the $1,000 MONOPOLY drawing, not the Hot Summer drawing. Both winner postings were corrected at the same time.

7/18/2013 12:16 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (RFM6128) - The Lucke-Zone site isn't set up to automatically post those, but if you have a specific question about how many entries were made into a specific drawing, and ask us here on the blog, we'll do our best to respond in a timely fashion :-)

7/18/2013 12:16 - NC Lottery

@ TAMILYN - Here is a link to our original blog entry about how Lucke-Rewards points work... if you copy & paste it into your web browser, we think it will answer your question! http://bit.ly/OjU1z0

7/18/2013 12:14 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (BARTIE) - How do you know the other states aren't copying us? Just kidding. In all seriousness, what you have observed in terms of the same game themes being used in multiple states is a common practice, not just in North Carolina, but among state lotteries in general. As for the new game schedule, we will actually be introducing fewer games per year going forward, but on a more regular basis as you noted. We certainly only want you & everyone else to play with money in their entertainment budget - after all, there's never a guarantee of winning a prize & it takes a lot of luck to win. Good luck to all!

7/18/2013 12:12 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (LOVELLG) - There were more than 141,000 entries made into the Winning Wednesday drawing held on July 17 :-) Winners will be notified and the site will be updated with winner info as notification and claim processes are complete :-)

7/18/2013 10:23 - lovell g.

How many total entries were there for yesterday's drawing? Thank you

7/18/2013 09:44 - steve b.

As I have been commuting to and from New York State. I have noticed that NC. Lottery is copying a lot of the same scratch-off games that they have up there as far as the theme goes. Is that the case? Also, I noticed that your going to have new scratch-off games every 1st. Tues. of every month!! The scratchers must be a real money maker for the lottery!!! But very hard to hit it big for us poor folks... :(

7/18/2013 12:33 - Tammy D.

my question is i just entered 4 cherry twist losing tickets into the system and the first one gave me 20 pts, then 2 pts, then next 10 pts and the last 2 pts. I dont understand why different pts for them. Please explain. I have noticed with with other tickets as well. same ticket but different point values. Thanks

7/17/2013 10:49 - Roberta M.

how do you find out the odds for the various second chance drawings? I realize that you don't know until the contest is finalized - but would like to see the odds posted.

7/17/2013 05:15 - Lawrence C.

I am happy for you all.

7/17/2013 03:20 - Ava E.

Another name has also been removed from the Hot Summer winners list-- Patrick Leroy from Goldsboro. Was he also posted as a winner in error?

7/17/2013 03:05 - Denver G.

That's kinda funny. Y'all had everyone freakin out over nothing. Thanx for the quick fix an ez answer. Now everyone can hope they can be the first to win twice next month. It could happen !

7/17/2013 10:29 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (CSUMMERS76) - P. Ervin was only a winner in one drawing - MONOPOLY. A human being enters the information into the Lucke-Zone content system to display it on the website. In the process of updating the Hot Summer winners, the other winner's name was mistakenly entered there. Your characterization that it was "all of a sudden removed" is another way of saying that once our staff realized that the incorrect information was on the website, we fixed the mistake. This has nothing to do with the drawings, which are always conducted under the supervision of an auditor. :-)

7/17/2013 10:06 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (SUEHUSKINS) - As someone who reads our blogs and comments on them regularly, surely you've seen how often we remind people how much luck it takes to win a prize playing the lottery; that there are many more non-winning tickets than winning tickets, which is what makes it possible to have the chance to win a prize. We also advertise the odds of winning on every ticket, in how-to-play brochures, and on our website. This is the way lottery games work in any state where you play them. This is why we encourage folks to play for fun - and wish everyone luck! :-)

7/17/2013 10:06 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (SUEHUSKINS) - You are right that MOST winners are not from WNC... which is what you'd expect since MOST people who live in North Carolina don't live or play the lottery in WNC. Players in WNC have no better or worse chance of winning, there are just many more people in the rest of the state. You can research population totals by county on this website: http://1.usa.gov/dcYpnz

7/17/2013 12:05 - Betty K.

I play the lottery and I play the second chance lottery. I realize you have to be patience and don't get upset. If it is meant to be it will happen.Don't get upset with the NCEL.That's why I'm going to wait for my ship to come in.Good Luck To Everyone.

7/16/2013 09:32 - Colleen H.

Someone needs to google the cities in WNC. Of the 126 winners listed, I only counted 12 from WNC, which I think is really great considering all the people entering tickets for 2nd chance drawings but is far from being MOST winners. I may be off by 1 or 2 but a random drawing is random and no way is 1 area selected over another. My 2 cents from WNC!! I saw where they want to teach lottery odds in public schools just so people will realize how many non winning tickets are sold to have a few winners. It can't come soon enough!!!

7/16/2013 08:02 - CHRISTINA S.

Hmmmm...Aren't the winning entries checked BEFORE they are posted as winners? Why would P. Ervin be listed on both games as a winner, then all of a sudden removed? How fool proof are these drawings?

7/16/2013 05:43 - brett b.

hey only thing I would like to see posted extra is how many ppl were entered in the drawing.like to calculate the odds lmao. otherwise I like lucky

7/16/2013 05:00 - NC Lottery

@ LOVELY41 - Here's a link you can copy & paste into your browser for info from Sharpsburg and Edgecombe County: http://bit.ly/191v8pi

7/16/2013 04:54 - NC Lottery

@ TURBO - Phillip Ervin is actually a MONOPOLY drawing winner, not a Hot Summer winner. He is now listed just as a MONOPOLY winner. :-)

7/16/2013 03:50 - Denver G.

How come Mr. Phillips name isn't on the winners list for the hot summer drawing anymore?

7/16/2013 01:25 - beatrice t.

Where the money at in sharpsburg....

7/16/2013 11:56 - NC Lottery

@ SANDY - The winners from the first Hot Summer 2nd Chance drawing who have claimed so far have been posted. You can click through to the winners page yourself, or copy & paste this link: http://bit.ly/15Kk5xq

7/16/2013 11:53 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (ASHERON) - If you have even just one entry in a drawing, you've got a chance to win. That's what the lottery is all about... think about the Powerball jackpot: You have to beat odds of 1 in 175 million to win it all. As astronomical as those odds are, it's happened three times for North Carolina players! So... whether you're playing Powerball or entering Lucke-Rewards drawings for a chance to win... here's to hoping you beat the odds!

7/16/2013 11:52 - NC Lottery

@ ANNIVERSARY CASH - Sorry to hear you didn't win on your Black Onyx tickets. Better luck on your next one!

7/16/2013 11:51 - NC Lottery

@ 1R2K - Hey, glad to hear you won $10!! Hope you make it to the beach one way or the other!! :-D

7/16/2013 11:47 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (DOUG2160) - If you look through the Lucke-Zone blog going back week after week, month after month, you'll see many other players make the exact some comment/accusation - except they're from all different parts of the state. What that tells you is that it takes a lot of luck to win the lottery no matter where you live or play. Good luck to you!

7/16/2013 11:46 - NC Lottery

@ TURBO - Prizes won in Cash 5 Bonus Bucks drawings must be claimed within 180 calendar days of the draw date. Prizes won in the Nov. 14, 2012 drawing had to be claimed by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 13. As for the other prizes you pointed out as being TBD, that just means nobody has come forward yet to claim the prizes. We do our best to remind Cash 5 players to hold on to their Bonus Bucks entry slips and check our website for the winning entry numbers!

7/16/2013 11:36 - NC Lottery

@ LUCKYFOUR - We've had lots of winners from the Durham area. You can copy & paste this link into your browser for more info: http://bit.ly/17XWRrl

I sure hope some1 from Durham wins something, hopefully it's me, but when is any1 from here gonna hit/win ANYTHING? Even in the drawings, you don't see any winners from here. I just find it odd, that's all. Well, hope my day is coming soon & a big Congrats to every1 that's winning (or have won).

I have never won anything in my life but I sure hope that will change soon. Congratulations to all of you that have won!!!! Love to hear good news for other people!!!!!!!

7/14/2013 08:58 - Denver G.

I noticed in past bonus cash 5 drawings 2 things. A 50k winner is still unclaimed from Nov. Is it too late for that winner to come forward ? And there were 2 winners still TBD for March and June . What's up with that ?

The lottery seems to rigged up so bad, all of the big winners are in the western part of the state and so are the drawings. They need to fix this problem.

How is it that the same person wins two different drawings on 7/3? How do these drawings work? That seems like more than just chance? New at this but wondering if it is even worth the effort.
