"Wow. This ain't a bad day at all." That's what $1 million winner Ronnie Jackson of High Point had to say at lottery headquarters. The retired Army soldier was one of two players to scratch off seven-figure prizes this week. He purchased his winning 20X the Money ticket at The Pop Shoppe on Hickswood Road in High Point.
The other $1 million winner is Rudolph Peterson, a production operator from Halifax. “Of all the stores in North Carolina, I was in the right place at the right time,” the North Carolina native said. “I’m still just shocked.” He scratched off the lucky ticket at the store he purchased it from, the New Dixie Mart on N.C. 903 in Halifax.
Roland Bersch, an 83-year old dance instructor from Fayetteville, stepped his way to $150,000 playing the lottery's Mega Money Multiplier ticket. He bought the lucky ticket at Pan’s Thai Market on Hope Mills Road in Fayetteville. “I thought I had read it wrong,” Bersch said. “I asked the lady at the store and she looked at it and told me I had won. I didn’t think it could be, but I am just elated.”
A pair of Carolina Cash 5 jackpots were won this week by players who bought their tickets in Raleigh. The $72,337 jackpot for the July 13 drawing was won by a ticket sold at Taz's on South Wilmington Street. The $183,385 jackpot for the July 18 drawing was won by a ticket sold at El Mandado Supermercados on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh.
Five prizes of $10,000 were won or claimed by players of multistate jackpot games. Maryellen Bickel of Louisburg won in the July 2 Mega Millions drawing. David Halverson of Anthony Florida bought his winning ticket for the July 6 Powerball drawing at the Kangaroo Express on Ashdale Court in Kannapolis. Three tickets in the July 16 Mega Millions drawing won $10,000, one of which was claimed by Timothy Mabe of King. The other tickets were sold at Charlie's Tobacco Outlet on Eastchester Drive in High Point and at Tobacco Plus on Eagle Street in Asheville.
Eight more players scratched their way to big wins this week. They are:
- Terry Yarboro of Elkin, who won $10,000 playing Black Onyx 7's
- Lori Rhodes of Carrboro, who won $10,000 playing MONOPOLY
- Adam Ramey of Kernersville, who won $10,000 playing $200,000 Extreme Cash
- Patricia Nelson of Greensboro, who won $10,000 playing MONOPOLY
- Cynthia Hovis of Lincolnton, who won $10,000 playing Mega Money Multiplier

- Tara Foland of Asheboro, who won $25,000 playing Cherry Twist
- Troy Foy of Richlands, who won $50,000 playing Bingo Mania
In all, instant winners claimed $15.1 million in prizes. Along with the $3.4 million won by draw game players, N.C. Education Lottery winners scored more than $18.6 million this week.
That's it for the wrap-up. Thanks for playing and reading - and good luck!

Just curious on what number to expect to see when I get a call telling me "I won ?"
I hope NCEL does not use a 800,877,866, type of number.
I much rather get an email anyway, so all my info is updated.
