David Rector, a letter carrier from Salisbury, made three entries into the lottery’s Star Trek™ second-chance drawing, held on June 19. One of those entries was chosen at random, winning him the grand prize: A trip for two to Las Vegas for the 2013 Star Trek Convention.

“I feel great,” Rector said after claiming the grand prize at the lottery’s Charlotte claim center. “It’s basically the first thing I’ve won that amounts to anything.”

After thinking it over, the North Carolina native decided to give the trip to his adult son, Mike.

“He enjoys watching the movies and all,” David explained. “He’s really excited about it and looking forward to it. He’s going to take his wife. They’ve always wanted to go to Las Vegas, and now they get a chance.”

The couple will stay at The Rio Suites from Aug. 8-11 for the convention. They’ll get to enjoy around the clock entertainment, including appearances by 70 Star Trek celebrities, programs on the “science” of Star Trek, fan panels, trivia competitions and more.

The Rectors are not the only winners in the Star Trek game. Ten lucky entrants won Star Trek merchandise prize packages in the second-chance drawing. Not to mention that, since the game started on April 16, three lucky players have scratched off $20,000 instant prizes. That means two more $20,000 prizes, and many other prizes, remain to be claimed.

@ PLAYER (GWENGWEN50) - Absolutely! A Lucke-Zone member can win a maximum of one prize per drawing, but there's no rule about winning a prize in more than one drawing! Good luck!

7/20/2013 10:14 - gwendolyn J.

Can you continue to enter other drawings after you have won a prize from another drawing on Lucke-Rewards?

7/20/2013 01:53 - clara m.

Well in the 1st Hot Summer draw I had 257 entries,so far on the 2nd I have 236.I enter tickets everyday.Guess we'll see in Aug. who the lucky 20 are.Good luck to all!

7/18/2013 12:09 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (JOEBEAR4CINDY) - The winners page for the WW drawing held on 7/10 will be updated when more info is available.

7/18/2013 10:38 - joseph c.

Are they not updating the site since the Winning Wednesday Drawing for the 10th has not updated.

7/16/2013 11:54 - NC Lottery

@ GORAMS15 - The odds of a particular number coming out in a Pick 3 drawing never change. It's always in 1 in 1000... whether the combination X-Y-Z came up yesterday, twice last week, or never, the chances X-Y-Z will come up in the next drawing are exactly 1 in 1000. So, whatever numbers you like to play, we wish you luck that they're the winning ones!

7/16/2013 11:37 - NC Lottery

@1R2K - We don't understand your question about the quota limit?

7/16/2013 11:34 - NC Lottery

@ CONNIE - An entry made in Stonypoint or Statesville is just as good as an entry made any place else. But you have to remember that there are thousands of players making thousands of entries into these drawings. We wish we could tell everyone who enters a drawing that they will win a prize, but we can never guarantee that - only a guaranteed CHANCE to win! Good luck!!

7/15/2013 10:16 - connie b.

first cg to all the winners myself I have entered so many tickets for the second chance drawings and still have not seen a single one for the stonypoint area , or Statesville area I don't know whats up with this I know is all luck but dang give us some winners.......

7/15/2013 10:59 - Roger K.

what happen to the rest? over quota limits?

7/13/2013 12:09 - Christine R.

Wow, Phillip Erwin wins 2 big drawings on the same day. What luck! Wonder how many entry's he had in each drawing? Second chance drawings are hard enough to hit once, but 2 times in 1 day. Lucky, lucky!

7/13/2013 07:24 - Roger K.

I won 50.00 dollars on a scratcher, Went to local flea market that Saturday, walk around shopping. When I left, to cash it in, I noticed that I had lost my ticket! I turn around to go back and look for it. I ask several people on the path I had walked! Had they found a lottery ticket, of course everyone said no,but finding a 50 dollar win on a scratcher, would you give it back to me if I had ask if you found it! NOPE! There are some honest people and not so honest people too. Next time I will leave it in the car, or at home to take later to cash in. Sorry for your lost, but

7/12/2013 05:49 - Reneta M.

You know you have double winners in all these games. Pick 3 for 07/12/2013 day came out 305 again. You know the person that plays that number all the time is winning more than once it is someones favorite number to play. This number has come out 10 times this year, 4 times as 305, for large amounts each time. You talking about odds now that is odd. I can see my numbers will be waiting in line a long time.

7/12/2013 01:05 - martha h.

to Mary who found the tickets. If it was of battleground in the gas station parking lot not far from Khol Shopping Center it was me. Thank you for letting me know that I did not lose much. I appreciate that so much. Thank you.

7/12/2013 10:18 - NC Lottery

@ MAMAT - We do award millions of dollars a day in prizes, but - as with games of chance anywhere - there are always many more non-winning tickets than winning tickets. With games of chance, there's never a guarantee of winning a prize... so we hope you'll only play for fun, knowing that it takes a lot of luck to win.

7/12/2013 10:14 - NC Lottery

@ ZONEBOY1964 - That is a very creative accusation. Sorry to disappoint you, but the RANDOM second-chance drawings are conducted under the supervision of an auditor, according to specific security procedures. We're very happy for Mr. Rector that one of his entries was lucky; it only takes one entry in a drawing to have a chance to win. Good luck to you in an upcoming drawing!

7/12/2013 10:13 - NC Lottery

@ MARY - You're a big winner in our book, for being so thoughtful. If you would like to call our player customer service and explain what you found and where you found it, they can talk with you about the possible options. It may be difficult to locate the person who bought the tickets. But give them a ring: 877-962-7529 - And thanks for taking time to comment on the Lucke-Zone blog

7/12/2013 07:25 - Mary W.

I found two scratch off tickets that had been scratched in a rain-soaked parking lot. In a town between Winston Salem and Greensboro. I picked them up..put them in my pocket thinking they were losers...(to enter them in the computer).. I started to enter them today but checked them carefully. The numbers had been scratched but not the prizes. I thought I would find out today if anyone had gone into the businesses to report the tickets missing. It is obvious that the person knew they had won something but had not scratched the prize. If anyone is reading this that lost these two tickets...I would be glad to return them..The prize is a small one but if I were the one who lost the tickets, I would be going crazy wondering what the prizes were...

7/12/2013 03:18 - Charles H.

NCEL = U.S. Government, Letter carrier = U.S. Government. 3 entries and he wins??? Something sure as heck seems fishy here.

7/11/2013 09:37 - Tammy P.

Yea Right!!! I play powerball, cash 5, Scracthers, and lucke-zone. Can't win anything. Been doing this for years. Makes me wonder, if there are any real prizes. :(

7/11/2013 05:17 - NC Lottery

@ HUTCHGUY - We've had draw game winners, instant scratch-off winners, second-chance winners, and Lucke-Rewards winners from all different parts of the state. The two largest second-chance prize winners in NCEL history are $3 million winner Emily Stone from Denver in Lincoln County (30 minutes North of Charlotte) and $1 million winner Rodney Queen from Kernersville in Forsyth County (about halfway between Raleigh and Charlotte). Here is a link you can copy & paste into your browser for lots more information about winners from your area. Good luck to you! http://bit.ly/18cbl72

7/11/2013 05:13 - NC Lottery

@ DAVID - The winner didn't tell us at which store he bought his non-winning Star Trek tickets that he used to enter the drawing.

7/11/2013 05:09 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (REGINABAYLOR) - Once a lottery ticket is sold to a player, the ticket becomes that player's responsibility... to either sign and claim a prize, or to keep and hold on to and enter for Lucke-Rewards points. There is no issue of fairness to other players - Look at it this way: From your perspective, there are two kinds of Lucke-Rewards points: The ones you earn, and the ones earned by everyone else. It makes no difference if its one other person, ten other people, or a thousand other people! Good luck to you!!

7/11/2013 05:05 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER69 - Not sure what you mean by "extra points" ... would you give our player hotline a call during regular business hours to talk it through? 877-962-7529

7/11/2013 12:48 - James R.

(I know I'm a little late), but congrats to the winner! Man, oh man, I sure am trying my best to get some luck! Hope I'm next!(finger's crossed)

7/11/2013 10:24 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (SH) & @ EVERYONE - We've been notified by the company that handles the network traffic for the Lucke-Zone site and Lucke-Rewards ticket entry system that they believe the issue that made it difficult for some players to use the site has been fixed! So, with technology or anything else, there's always a possibility that something could surprise us, but as of right now we don't expect this problem to affect you guys. Once again, sorry for any frustration it caused some of you, but thanks for being patient while everything got sorted out! :-)

7/11/2013 09:32 - RONALD K.

I think it's all fun live long and PROSPER

7/11/2013 09:11 - Priscilla C.

I want to know exactly what I need to do to be a winner.

7/11/2013 07:43 - Derrick H.

How do you get extra points for the lucky rewards? I can't find point scratch offs anywhere..

7/10/2013 10:20 - mary j.

congrats

7/10/2013 09:50 - Colleen H.

Thank you thank you thank you!! Tickets are a breeze tonight to enter!!

7/10/2013 08:56 - REGINA B.

I have been purchasing my tickets but someone commented that they have been dumpster diving.I cannot see myself feeling around in trash cans etc.for old tickets. It's unfair game playing to accumulate 3500 points to someone who may have spent 30.00 in ticks.nclottery please coment:

7/10/2013 03:38 - Mark C.

The sight has really went downhill since the upgrade. It takes forever for a number to take in the system now. Look into for us as we are frustrated. Thanks so much.

7/10/2013 12:32 - David B.

Where did he buy the ticket? Just wondering. Congrats to you.

7/10/2013 12:00 - carol a.

everything running up to par today

7/10/2013 07:58 - Colleen H.

Congrats to Phillip Ervin who won 2 different drawings. You had better be playing mega and powerball drawings with luck like that!!! I'm happy for you. :-)

7/09/2013 10:12 - Marion F.

I have been there. I have gotten lock out, too.

7/09/2013 09:28 - carol a.

7/09/2013 09:16 - NC Lottery

@ ANNA, @ CARMAN + @ EVERYONE - We understand that the site is not working fast enough. Sorry for any frustration that may be causing you. The company that is responsible for the network the site runs on is working on getting it fixed; if we get any updates, we'll pass them along.

7/09/2013 09:11 - JIM B.

Serious issues with your website dude! Ticket entries very difficult to attain-attention to this problem would be appreciated. My dumpster diving tickets are starting to accumulate. As always,Thanks

7/09/2013 08:10 - anna w.

it is really hard to enter tickets on my site it usally take a few min. now it took me a very long time and won't let me enter drawings! thank you for all your help!

7/09/2013 07:37 - NC Lottery

@ EVERYONE - We have been notified by the company who manages the Lucke-Zone web traffic that the network is running slow again. We are sorry that this may slow things down for you, but please know that many people are working to get it fixed; if we get more information, we'll share it with you right away.

7/09/2013 07:09 - Leola L.

I also am having problems getting tickets entered. Sometimes they won't go through at all! Don't what the problem is but I sure wish someone would find out! Makes entering tickets a chore!

7/09/2013 06:17 - John M.

this problem may be in the lucke reward drawing

7/09/2013 05:41 - David H.

The FIRST time they give away or an actual "winner" from the Salisbury-Concord- Charlotte area and it is a DUD.. Typical. Figures. Most of the 2nd chance winners are from the Raleigh metro area.. Look it up. Geeze.. I wonder why??

7/09/2013 04:46 - NC Lottery

@ PLAYER (SH) - We'll take your questions one by one: #1) The lottery staff uses @lotterync.net e-mail addresses, but which staff member sends the e-mail could vary. #2) The NCEL communications team answers questions on the blog; when players ask complex or detailed questions, we ask staff members in other divisions for more information or pass along questions to them so that we can provide the best answers to you possible. #3) We recognize that, although only a few players left comments about having issues entering tickets, that suggests that more had the same experience, which is why our reply was addressed to everyone.

7/09/2013 03:02 - patricia B.

good luck to all the winners and i did have some promblems entering tickets but i am back on trackthank s help team

7/09/2013 02:11 - Colleen H.

Since NCEL has yet to answer the many questions about the email address the winning notification comes from maybe a winner will answer the question for us. Is email address from- nc-educationlottery@lotterync.net or lucke-zone@lotterync.net, .org etc. I think since the staff does not enter tickets they are unaware of some of the questions because I noticed they never completely answer some questions. Although most are answered in the blog or other blogs so half the questions have been answered over and over. I also find it hard to believe only 4-5 people experienced a slow system Sunday and Monday night, so we are to assume nothing was done and same problem will happen tonight when everyone jumps on. I almost did not complain because I was so frustrated. thanks in advance.

7/09/2013 02:02 - clara m.

I also had problems, took so long I gave up.

7/09/2013 11:48 - NC Lottery

RE: SITE SPEED (MMCELROY86, MARVA, SONIA415LOTTO, KATIEG, JOHN) - We talked to our web development team, and its not clear what might have caused the site to run slowly for you. If you notice problems with how the site runs in the future, please click on the "HELP" link at the very top of the screen and report it. By doing this, the technical people can notice if many players have reporting the same type of issue and they can look into it and, if it is something on our end, fix it. In the meantime sorry to hear you had difficulty with it! Sounds like things are back to normal or we're sure we would have heard from more players! :-)

7/09/2013 11:44 - John L.

I'm hoping that my luck could change in Lucke-Rewards since everywhere else has failed. God bless all those previous winners already.

7/09/2013 11:42 - NC Lottery

@ JMP - On our main website, nc-educationlottery.org, you can click on "GAMES" and then "INSTANT SCRATCH-OFFS" ... pick any specific game, and scroll down, and you'll see how many top prizes remain. Good luck!!!

7/09/2013 11:33 - NC Lottery

@ TINE - For Lucke-Rewards drawings (weekly & monthly), game-specific second-chance drawings (like Star Trek), and promotional drawings (such as the Hot Summer 2nd Chance promotion)... winners are notified first at the e-mail address associated with their Lucke-Zone account - usually within 48 business hours of a drawing. If a winner doesn't respond to the e-mail, we attempt to reach them by telephone and, if that doesnt work, certified mail. Good luck to you!

7/09/2013 11:31 - NC Lottery

@ TINE - Lucke-Zone members made more than 2.4 million entries into the first Hot Summer 2nd Chance drawing.

7/09/2013 09:31 - celeste v.

Where do find how many enties were in the 1st hot summer drawing?

7/09/2013 09:25 - celeste v.

How do you let us know we have won in a drawing, an e-mail,a phone call, a letter ?

7/08/2013 09:14 - Katie G.

am i the only one having problems entering tickets? last night it took us over 6 hours to enter and looks like same thing tonight... getting general website failure, no dashboard showing up, among lots of other errors. no problem saturday or problems with other websites. i have tried using opera and now google chrome with no luck. tickets also are getting errors and there are no entry errors. i have triple checked #'s, then re-enter and finally it will take it.. i would hate to get locked out and it not be my fault.

7/08/2013 09:05 - Sonia P.

I have started to experience problems when entering tickets. Not sure if it is the site. (extremely slow response and computer not responding. Is it because more people are entering tickets?

7/08/2013 07:33 - Marva H.

I am having trouble putting in ticket entries tonight is anybody else having trouble?

7/08/2013 07:27 - clifton o.

i am still in there...next month maybe my lucky day .. will b there ..thanks..

7/08/2013 05:08 - Mandy M.

Why is the site so slow now? How do we know the total # of entries into any of the drawings?

7/08/2013 04:52 - JODIE P.

Where can you find the number of top prizes left to be won on scratch off tickets..??? I can't find it anymore.......

7/08/2013 03:37 - NC Lottery

@ TURBO - Thanks for the comment and good luck to you!!

7/08/2013 02:04 - Denver G.

It only takes one ! I have over 35,000 points I have entered into ALL of the 2nd chance drawings since Nov.2012. I have not won anything "YET". So if you think you deserve to win because you have entered a few hundred points, think again ! There were 2.4 million entries in the hot summer drawing. Only 20 people won, odds are you were not one of them. Better luck next month. Thanx again NCEL. Keep it simple!

7/08/2013 01:11 - Denver G.

Live long and prosper. If his son wins in Vegas I'm sure he will share with his dad. That's the way to pay it forward. Congrats to your family.

7/08/2013 12:34 - Lisa V.

And anyone who thinks it isn't a game of luck or thinks it is rigged clearly should not play.

7/08/2013 11:02 - Henry B.

Three entries and he's a winner. This drives the point home; "The Lottery is Truly a Game of LUCK".
