Cash 5 and scratch-offs lead to big prizes

Four Carolina Cash 5 jackpot prizes highlighted a week of wins that added up to more than $17.6 million in prizes paid out to players in North Carolina.

We start with Charles Pace of Winston-Salem, who plans to buy a new car with his $336,415 Cash 5 win.“I had asked them to print out the winning numbers from last night,” Pace said. “I was sitting there looking at the numbers and I thought I was imagining the whole thing.”

Lynette Brice, an office manager from Greensboro, said that winning Wednesday’s $261,721 jackpot means she can save for retirement and help provide for her grandchildren’s college education.

A truck driver from Garner claimed a $224,632 Cash 5 prize.“I had to clean my glasses,” Major McLean said. “Then I had to take them off to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.”

Finally, Arthur Huff of Fayetteville plans to buy new truck with his $169,635 Cash 5 prize.
“It feels great to win,” Huff said. “I’m getting a new Nissan truck and I’m going to share with my family.”

This week's big instant scratch-off winner was David Kincaid of Granite Falls, who won $200,000 playing 20X The Cash.“I feel a lot of things,” Kincaid said. “Great. Wonderful. Fine. Fantastic. Excited and heavenly. This truly is a life-changer.”

Since Thursday, Aug. 8, more than $13.9 million was awarded to winners of instant scratch-off games. Players of draw games won more than $3.7 million in total prizes.

This week's instant scratch-off winners include:

Stephanie Fox of Indian Trail won $30,000 playing MONOPOLY.
Luther Wilder of Fayetteville won $25,000 playing Red White & Blue Cash.
Gerald Deaver of Lumberton won $20,000 playing $4,000,000 Gold Bullion.
Donnie Johnson of Selma won $10,000 playing 50X The Cash.
David Kesler of Wilmington won $10,000 playing MONOPOLY.
Lonnie McGee of Angier won $10,000 playing 50X The Cash.
Sharon Moore of Weaverville won $10,000 playing 50X The Cash.
Nickie Phillips of Elkin won $10,000 playing 5X The Cash.
Riley Shelton of Manns Harbor won $10,000 playing MONOPOLY.

@ MENGLISH - The thing about games of chance, including the lottery, is that good luck has no bias in favor of or against anybody, whether it be based on geography, age, income, hair color, or any other factor. It's just luck. And its important to play for fun knowing that it takes a lot of luck to win a prize. If you're not enjoying yourself, maybe a break from games of chance would make you feel better.

@ UUUUBSTRDS - There is a difference between REVENUE and PROFIT. No lottery would ever be promized to return 75% of its revenue for the cause it benefits, because that would leave less than 25% for prizes, and all vital business functions. In fact, 100% of the lottery's _PROFITS_ do go directly to funding specific education programs. But in order to raise $461.3 million, the lottery must spend portions of what comes in to pay prizes, commissions to retailers, and other functions that support ticket sales, etc.

thx for your answer LZ. when the lottery was voted in, we were told that over 75% was to go directly too funding public schools in our state. we should have known that our elected officials would create loopholes so they could get their greedy paws on the money. thx again LZ (just venting)

Here's the key: The $461.3 million we raised for specific education programs last year is equal to about 5% of the more than $10 BILLION that is spent on education statewide. So, as you can see, lottery funds help education but will never cover every need. if the lottery has provided a billion or so dollars to N.Carolina schools. then why are they all crying broke. tell the truth, did N.C.s political leaders take the money that was already appropriated for schools and lean on the lottery? by "take" i mean spent on something else.

Well I have bought a lot of the new tickets sometimes 10 or 15 of the same cards at one time and won nothing and I to have entered hundreds of second chance tickets at one time and won nothing. I am disappointed and it makes me want to stop playing I have seen very few winners here on scratch offs and the big lottery and to answer the question about cherry twist I have bought over 100 tickets and won not one thing on them and have never seen a cherry now thats crazy!!

Some games offer a better chance to win "break-even" prizes; some games offer a better chance to win "meaningful" i.e. medium-sized prizes. Just finished filling out the survey that was emailed to me from some entertainment company that has something to with the lottery. Didn't mind doing it, but still wanting to vent I think it is wrong to stop a scratch of game when there is so much money left to win. The 200k for life game has 1 4mil. prize left, 1 1 mil. and 12 10k prizes still not claimed. Where are the stats that say how many tickets remain like there use to be? If NCL is not making enough money which we all know they are, why not stop producing so many stupid commercials. You can't turn on the radio or TV without sitting through at least 1 in 30 minutes. Top prizes are to hard to win or just win something without ending a game to soon. Over 5 million in prizes no one will win because of ending this game. How much did ya'll collect on this game. If you posted the proper Stats we could figure it out for ourselves. I guess you just don't want us to have that much info. How many of you out there has won even 1% of what you have spent?

Long time player here. I’ve decided to walk away from the lottery. I so use to enjoy playing but they have made it so hard to win anything anymore that is not worth the effort. The new 50X $10 card has 7 winners out of 30 cards. Not sure why the lottery has chosen the path they are on. I think maybe you take it for granted that everyone will buy from the lottery regardless of the odds. Not true. Your buyers are astute and pay close attention. Jumbo Bucks is the only card left in their offering that you have a decent chance to win something on in every roll and I am sure its days are numbered and it will be replaced with a dud filled new card also. With all this said, no one ever forced me to play the lottery and I do appreciate the opportunity to play that was presented to me. I appreciate the lucky zone moderators also. @ PLAYER (BJEANK) - Please follow our logic carefully... a person like you who lives in very small town has no better or worse chance of winning a prize than someone who lives in a very big city. Remember, if you hear about a winning ticket in a place like Wilmington, Durham, Greensboro, Charlotte or Asheville... remember that there are loads of people who live in those cities who didn't win the lottery that day. I noticed you guys extended the 3 remaining 2nd chance monopoly drawings another 3 months instead of ending them this month like was stated. The $1 drawing ended last month and will not continue. I said it before and I'll say it again. The Super drawing was held way too soon. Seems to me you'll have plenty of time and enough money from ticket sales to have another Super drawing. Or even a mini Super drawing with more then one winner. Feedback please.
