Our quick look at the best lottery news of the week starts early Friday morning. That’s when a member of the lottery communications team checked our Facebook page to see what players were talking about. Someone mentioned that she won prize money on Thursday night’s Triple 2’s. So we blogged about it here in the Lucke-Zone to share the good news with everyone else. Pick 3 players won more than $1.9 million in the drawing. It’s the second time ‘Trips’ have come up during the month of August.
Another story in the making just keeps getting bigger: The Carolina Cash 5 jackpot. Update: It has rolled for nine straight drawings to an estimated $731,000 heading into Saturday’s drawing. As is always the case in the nightly drawings, that jackpot could be hit by one ticket, split by multiple tickets, or roll to a larger amount for Sunday’s drawing. Stay tuned to the Lucke-Zone for updates!
Finally, good luck that struck 25 years ago continues to make a difference today. Sheelah Ryan won $55.1 million playing the Florida Lottery in 1988. At the time, she was the record-holder for the largest lottery jackpot win in North American history. Ryan, who was unmarried with no children, established the Ryan Foundation. Though Ryan has since passed away, organizations such as public schools and daycares continue to benefit from Ryan Foundation donations.
